Your day trip from Strasbourg begins when you meet your guide aboard the awaiting minivan in the town center. Settle into air-conditioned comfort for the scenic drive.

The first stop is the village of Colmar, where you’ll go on a walking tour with your guide. The town’s cobblestoned streets are lined with characteristic German-style half-timbered buildings, and you’ll even see some canals. See Colmar’s main sights, including Saint Martin’s Church and the 16th-century Pfister House, and wander historic neighborhoods like Little Venice.

Your next stop is the picturesque town of Eguisheim, known for its Medieval buildings decorated with flowers, and then it’s on to Riquewihr. The charming town sits inside Medieval walls, and is a warren of meandering alleys and chocolate-box houses. Enjoy some time to explore the pretty town at your leisure, including time to have lunch (own expense).

Continuing on your Alsace tour, the next point of interest is the 105-mile (170 km) Alsace Wine Route (Route des Vins d’Alsace). This scenic road curves gently through rolling hills and past acres of vineyards at the foot of the Vosges Mountains. Continue toward your final stop — Haut Koenigsbourg Castle (Château du Haut-Koenigsbourg).

The castle dates from the 12th century, and you’ll have a chance to explore the inside — including where people once lived inside it — and find out how this powerful fortress used to control the salt, wheat and wine routes from northern and eastern Europe. Admire the excellent views from the castle’s hilltop vantage point before climbing back into the minivan for the drive back to Strasbourg at the starting point of the tour.

A great introduction to the Alsace Region
Kristina_H
, Sep 2021
This tour was a very good introduction to the region. We got to see most of the major attractions which will help us decide where to delve deeper the next time we visit. He was very knowledgeable about the region and could talk about more than the tourist places. He could speak to the wine and the history as well. There were only 4 of us on the tour so he could tailor it a bit for our interests as well.

Excellent, informative tour, with a knowledgeable and pleasant guide.

The tour guide was excellent: Knowledgeable, extremely pleasant, very articulate and provided a very welcome historical and social context to the towns and the castle that we visited. She had a perfect sense of when information was needed and she should proceed with her presentation, and when it was more important to pause to answer question -- and given her obvious enthusiasm and love for the region, there were may questions, which she never tired to answer. My wife and I have taken a number of similar small-group tours in a number of cities across Europe, and at the end of the tour there is the invariable evaluation of "Was this a good use of our time?" "How much did we learn?" "Was the overall experience (knowledge, culture, scenery, information, etc.) worth the cost? For this tour, with our guide, the answers were all in an emphatic affirmative.

Visiting Colmar was a highlight. Such a beautiful water-based town. We would loved more time. Our guide, Adrien, was knowledgeable and personable! The wine road did not disappoint!

We had a very Knowledge tour guide, Pauline, who showed us three truly lovely villages & a restored mode all castle. It was delightful & enjoyable. Only Wish was that there were more time available to explore more of Colmar & the two small villages.

I really enjoyed this tour! Florence was an excellent guide, doing it both in English and French without missing a beat. There is no way I would have made it to all of these towns in a day on my own - thanks!

Great tour guide. I think her name is Florence. She was helpful, smart and I loved how passionate she is about the Alsacian culture. She could perfectly speak English, Italian and Spanish (above French) and she shared her knowledge in a very interesting way. Warmly recommended!

Birthday Trip

, Dec 2019
We went with friends to celebrate a birthday and had a marvelous experience. Jean-Luc, our guide, was very knowledgeable and provided the right amount of time at each place to ensure that we saw everything we wanted to see. He also gave us time to wander on our own. We loved the little villages, as they were places we would have never found on our own. Great day all around!

Day trip in Alsace

This tours was not conducted as advertised for a sequence of reasons. First the the van windows were fogged in the 2nd and 3rd rows so passengers could not see out for the first hour or more of the trip. The driver gave us a cloth to wipe the moisture away when we said we could not see...which we passed back and forth until we just gave up.we missed seeing the countryside. Second, the man driving the van was more a driver ( and a good one) than a tour guide. He was essentially silent while driving, except answering the few questions asked, and provided only minimal information about each stop. Colmar was advertised as one of the highlights of the trip and we were looking forward to it. However we were dropped off with a map because the driver had not planned in advance where to park. We really learned nothing about Colmar. We tried to guide ourselves with the map he gave us but found it of little use. We returned early to wait for the van because we feared we would be unable to find the meeting point and in any case were not getting much out of the visit without a guide. Both my husband and I have a strong interest in WWII and expected to have a guide able to provide context and information about the WWII experience in Colmar but were sorely disappointed. In summary our driver was very nice and did have command of some facts as any driver might. For example he accompanied us in a walk through Eguisheim and offered some interesting facts. However he was primarily a driver and not a tour guide in the conventional sense. We only had one day to visit the sites listed on this tour. This experience was very disappointing.
