Returns to original departure point
Make your way to Simpson Bay and board the Sand Dollar with Captain Junior at the helm. Be sure to bring along a towel and swim suit, as well as sunscreen and a hat to protect you from the hot St Maarten sun while snorkeling. Sand Dollar is a custom built 28 foot power boat with a canopy for shade.

Trips start with the boat gliding into the lagoon. Find a space on the deck and relax, grab a cold soda, a beer or some French cheese on a crusty baguette while viewing the picturesque coastline as you sail out towards Creole Rock, about a mile offshore.

Creole Rock is an unusual rock formation with a reef extending out towards the shore, whose calm, shallow waters make for excellent snorkeling and diving. When Captain Junior moors the boat, slip on your provided snorkel, fins and mask and jump in. Feel free to ask the captain and crew any questions about the surrounding environment or get a few pointers on snorkeling.

View the surrounding rock formations as tropical reef fish dart in and out of their hiding places. Be on the lookout for barracuda, pufferfish and the rare frogfish.

Non-swimmers are always welcome to take the scenic boat ride with beautiful views of neighboring Anguilla. Divers are also welcome to join this excursion, but must indicate in advance.

After approximately 3 hours, Captain Junior will return you safely to shore at Simpson Bay.

Great time

The weather is always good in the islands but it’s rougher at times so the water is not as clear and the ride is rougher. Such was the case on our visit but it was a great time. I had my adult granddaughter who had never been snorkeling in the islands and she was blown away. Captain Roy and Delroy make a great team. Helpful and entertaining. Thoroughly enjoying.

Trip was the perfect length. Information provided by our guide was fun and useful. Saw plenty of different fish but this is not a trip for you if you need to see turtles

It was a nice trip, but not quite as described in the advertisement. There is no 'catamaran', there is no 'gliding through the lagoon' and we never met 'Captain Alex.' Quite the contrary, you are whisked away in a speedboat to the destination, time to snorkel, then return. Good point is if you're not interested in the catamaran's leisurely round trip, you'll love it since you will have more time to snorkel. My wife and I enjoy snorkeling, but after an hour, we are worn out. It is a nice quick trip I would recommend, but be sure you reread my second sentence and ensure you're okay with all the deviations from what is being marketed.

The tour we took was fun. However, it was not what we had booked and paid for. We were the only people booked for our tour so they moved us to a tour that went the same place but instead of my husband and myself being on a boat together, I rode with the leader and my husband was by himself on a jet ski. I booked for the boat for ease of entry and exit from the water to snorkel. I enjoyed the trip we did, but I did not like the choice being made for me. I would have preferred to be notified in advance so I could have chosen whether to keep or do something different.

The trip was fine and the snorkeling was gorgeous. The length of time was just right for first-time snorkelers. But the hard thing was finding the place. We couldn't find the tour operator without a lot of stopping for directions. The other people scheduled for the tour never did find it, according to the woman who gave us forms to sign. Also our one-man crew was pretty taciturn and not much of a naturalist. And you might want to tuck a granola bar in your beach bag since the food is available only as you are heading back to port and you might feel hungry mid-snorkel. All in all, it was fun, just sort of the snorkeling equivalent of a starter home.

Do to windy conditions and a larger group we had to take the long way around to get to the snorkel spot which shortened our stay but that was not anyone's fault. Was a great boat ride and sight seeing.
