Get ready to discover the original Emerald City, the city of Seattle, Washington, from its inception in the 1890s. This entertaining and educational underground voyage travels beneath the streets to uncover three blocks of historic, old Pioneer Square. Explore not only the underground passageways that were built more than 120 years ago, but also the modern Pioneer Square that exists today.

Hear tales from the past, like the story of the stampede to the Yukon gold fields and Seattle's crucial role in what would become the Klondike Gold Rush. Find out about Skid Row, a dilapidated urban area that served as the main street in Pioneer Square. And get to know the history of a group of people called the Coast Salish, the ethnically and linguistically related Indigenous peoples that first settled here.

A educational tour around Seattle's underground.

My girl and I took the tour around Seattle's pioneer square. Our tour guide Dave was exceptionally knowledgeable and had us all giggling with his dad joke puns! I actually learned a lot about the history of our great city. I can't wait until we are fully re open so I can take the night underground tour.

We can't wait to see you for our night tour. The jokes, and material, will definitely be a bit more "grown up" than Dave's dad jokes but you will have a great time.

Visiting Seattle for the First Time

I had high expectations for this place and I was a bit disappointed at the end of our “tour”. The first twenty minutes were spent going over Seattle’s history, which is great knowledge. But it was annoying because while the guide is sharing the history, there are people coming in late, and others having conversations at the cash register. Then we spent a few minutes “underground” and then walked the above streets to learn more history. Finally we ended with another very short tour of the underground. Overall, it was okay. I expected to spend more time underground. The tour guide was great, funny, and provided tons of cool information.

Rosa, I'm sorry about the noisy conversations at the cash register...we'll work on trying to keep those quieter during the Introductory section of our tours. Folks not arriving on time definitely causes more of those conversations to happen. I'm glad you enjoyed your guide and the information they shared. Once Covid-19 restrictions are relaxed we will be able to spend a bit more time underground. Currently we are only allowed 15 minutes at each underground stop per County Health Order.
