A great value, 6-hour guided minibus tour of Lewis with lots of stops for site visits.
, Sep 2021
The Guide was Anne, who drove the Minibus, and although I was one of only two to take the Tour on that day, she gave us the full 6-hours, and we stopped about 6 times to visit the important historical landmarks. Anne volunteered to take photos of us at each stopping point, which was lovely. Among the places we saw were the village of the Black Houses, where Peat is produced, the Standing Stones of Callanish, the tragic site of the 1919 shipwreck, the Castle, and a couple more.
Unhurried and Enlightening

Annie MacDonald of Love Hebrides is a gem! She is down to earth, very knowledgeable, responsive to questions, and flexible with the timetable. Her style is not overly rehearsed and we never felt rushed. Great experience!

A Wonderful Day in Lewis
, Jun 2019
Our guide was Nigel and he was delightful. He drove a large van with plenty of room for all 10 of us. He went opposite the ship tours to see the main sites so that we would miss the crowds. The first place he took us was the largest standing stone. It dates from 5,000 years ago! Then we went to Callanais standing stones. This is older than Stonehenge and one can walk among them. there is "something" of a "presence" here that is hard to explain. These were early stone age people who erected these stones and walked the land where we walked. Nigel got the van as close as possible so that my husband could walk among the stones and then he took him down the hill to a cafe to wait while the rest of us wandered all over the hill and took pictures. We then walked down the hill to join them and enjoy a hot beverage. It was good to get inside out of the weather for a bit. He then took us to a "blackhouse" which was facinating. We saw the remains of early stone age, later stone age villages, an Iron age village, a Viking stronghold, beautiful beaches - one had huge black boulders like the tops of dolmans, the sand was very white and the water was turquoise blue We petted hairy coos (I learned that originally they were all black but Queen Victoria liked ginger so they interbred to get various colors. I met a couple of black ones and also some ginger. Sheep also were found roaming the hills. It was amazing to walk on places all the ages of mankind have walked. We finished off at Lews castle overlooking the town of Stornaway. Along the way Nigel told us stories and gave us many insights to the lovely people who live here. In some ways it reminds me of a" Brigadoon". They all wear modern clothes and have the internet and smart phones and yet there is a feeling that they know the outside world exists but they are far enough away not to be affected by it. The juxtaposition of ancient ways and manners coupled with modern conveniences is interesting. Many still cut the peat for fuel but most homes not use oil. Not only did Niigel takes us to all the major sites on Lewis he gave us wonderful stories of life here on the island . He was so kind to my husband who has trouble walking very far and made sure he too had a good tour.. I came away with a love and admiration for the people - I will always remember my wonderful day in Lewis.
