Full-Day Historic City Tour of San Antonio

We were only in San Antonio for 2 days so this tour was a great way to take in as much of the historic city as we could in just 1 day. Alex G was our tour guide and he was fantastic and very knowledgeable. A Highly recommended tour.

Alex showed us so many interesting sites in and around the city, where it all began, La Vita, to museums, beautiful St Joseph’s Catholic Church, parks, Japanese Tea Garden, great lunch at La Tierra in Market Square complete with a serenade and the missions on the south side of town. Alex was very informative and accommodating.

We took this full day tour because we had a very short time to spend in San Antonio (wishing it could have been longer now!) and wanted to see as much as possible. Other reasons for opting for this venue were: 1- It's August in South Texas and the van is air conditioned; 2- We're in our sixties, so we didn't want a vacation experience that we'd have to come home and feel the need to recuperate. Turns out these were valid reasons. I'd recommend this tour to anyone, and, in particular, during the first day of your visit, as you will get a very good idea as to how to spend the REST of your time in San Antonio from this excellent overview of the city. Our guide, Alex, was excellent. He is very knowledgable and engaging, with a keen sense of humor. He tied in San Antonio history, with its confluence of cultures, very well. We appreciated his insider recommendations for places to enjoy that cater to locals. During the tour, we passed by the Majestic Theater and noted on the marquee that a great show was happening that very night. We bought tickets on line, walked to the venue from our hotel and enjoyed a GREAT concert (1964 - a Beatles tribute band). Excellent! We wouldn't have known about it had we not taken this tour. Likewise, we would probably not have visited any missions beyond The Alamo, but we found San Jose and Concepcion to be fascinating. We used the following day to revisit LeVillita for breakfast and a bit of shopping. Also went back to Riverwalk, both at night and by daylight. Nighttime on Riverwalk is a bit crowded, while daytime is more families, albeit less comfortable, temperature-wise. We went back to the Briscoe (western art) museum and it was fabulous. Alex touted San Antonio during special occasions such as Fiesta, Halloween, etc., but, honestly, these events, while unique and fun, might be a distraction to all that the essence of the city has to offer. So perhaps make plans to come back during these special times, if it's your desire. All in all, this was a good experience.

Our Guide, Alex, made the tour very enjoyable and tremendous fun for a couple of seniors. His knowledge of the downtown, riverwalk, the churches, south side missions, arts district, the old breweries (Lone Star), Gunther bread factory, Japanese Botanic Gardens, Breckinridge Park, Hemisphere Plaza, historic hotels, The Alamo, the historic La Villita area history, merchants, shops, and restaurants. This tour was very comprehensive and highly recommended for all. Our hats are off to Alex for such a great tour. This capped off our stay in San Antonio. Many thanks!!

We really enjoyed this tour. Our guide, Domingo, was knowledgeable, answered all.our questions, and stayed on schedule so we were able to do see all of the sites planned in the time alotted. We only had one day in San Antonio, so i am glad we did this tour because we were able to cover a lot in a short amount of time.

Was a wonderful tour. Alex took so much time and we learned so much history about San Antonio. I had no idea it was such a beautiful city. Would recommend it.

Our tour guide was amazing! Our guide was very knowledgeable and friendly, we learned a lot of information we did not know. If you have older people with you wear walking shoes and be prepared to be tired once you are done for the day. We loved our day!

Anthony’s presentation was very good and comprehensive. The van was comfortable and the pick-up easy. Anthony let us decide what and how long because at the last minute the other guests didn’t show...We had a private tour. We had major rain after lunch so make sure you bring rain gear.

The tour guide, Domingo is really good. He knows a lot of interesting bits of information about San Antonio, which adds a lot of flavor to the tour.
