Good Hike, Bad Transportation
Sara_P
, Aug 2022
The tour itself was good, but this was a pretty challenging hike. Wear tennis shoes. You will be climbing over boulders. If you are not in good physical shape, this is not for you. The transportation to and from was awful. Our driver got lost twice, then quit so our ride back consisted of 1 van and 22 people. He had to make two trips, it was bad, and kind of scary. Our 2nd driver was good, but there is so much only one person can do. Can't recommend because of that.

What an amazing time we had from start to finish. The transportation was in a convenient location, the ride up there was just as adventurous and the hike itself was one for the books! Marlon our tour guide was the best ever! I loved how he made it a point to know everyone’s name and had the best personality. He made you feel safe, encouraged you and cheered you on every step of the way. It was intense but you feel like a superhero once you get to the crystal clear water. The cliff diving, the rope swing and the water slide are an added bonus . Lastly we stopped to eat and had some real home cooked Puerto Rican food. Delicious!! So even if you have doubts, do it anyway. You will be glad you did!!

Great Trip!

The mud, those shoes and socks were brand new and Snow White LOL. The guides were wonderful. Knowledgeable friendly and polite. They spoke about the history and the flora. I wish they would have shared more about the beautiful plants and flowers. We did get to eat a flower- a wild ginger style flower with health benefits- more of this please! The natural water slide, rope swing and rock jumping in the water was fun and cool and totally optional. It rained about 9 times during our 3hours… it IS a rainforest After the forest we were taken to a row of small authentic PR food stands. If I had known about them before the trip, we would not have eaten any place else! The transportation was clean and air conditioned. Good trip!

Awesome Experience

My friend and I had a great time on this excursion. The pickup location was very convenient and our driver Edgar was very friendly. For the hike itself, you don’t need to bring much besides a towel and water bottle. They don’t want you to bring much else on the tour and ask you to leave bags behind. YOU WILL GET MUDDY! Embrace it! You rinse off when swimming any way. The hike up is not too difficult, just muddy with some tricky spots. The difficult part is climbing up and over rocks and things when getting to the cliff jumps and rope swing. It was hard, but well worth it. The guides helped us when we needed assistance up, and other people on the tour helped one another. The cliff jumping and swimming was a little intimidating, but very fun! Our guides Ivan and Joel were awesome. Also the lunch in Loquillo beach was delicious. Our tour was running late, so unfortunately we didn’t get to spend much time time there, but I had the best mojito!

Not safe- do not recommend!!

The trail is not long or steep, but it is extremely slippery and hasn’t been developed with any sort of railings or platforms to walk on. I ended up falling and breaking my leg very badly right as our group was leaving the river. I am an experienced hiker— but I literally slipped while standing still. I fell down, twisting my ankle about 180 degrees, and there was a loud cracking sound. I knew immediately that my leg was broken. After breaking my leg, it quickly became clear that the guides had no training or even basic first aid knowledge on how to handle a situation like this. They asked if I could stand up— it took a little bit but I was able to get up, which they said meant my leg wasn’t broken (just badly strained). I knew for a fact that isn’t necessarily true, especially since the body releases endorphins and adrenaline when it goes through that type of trauma, which blocks the pain, making it more possible to stand up. They didn’t even look at the leg. One of the guides escorted me down the trail, but really I just had to hobble back to the parking lot. Everyone was having fun, and I understand that no one wants to ruin a good time. However, the guides did not take my injury seriously. They continued with their regular agenda— which included stopping for a late lunch on the way back to San Juan. I had to wait for maybe another 45 mins while everyone ate and went shopping. The guides did not offer to take me to a hospital or take any further action, so I ended up just getting some ice in a shopping bag from one of the restaurants. I then asked if the driver could drop me off at my hostel— it was literally a block off the interstate back into town. I could tell the driver was extremely annoyed and didn’t want to do it— meaning I would have to ride right past my hostel by a few miles and then take an Uber back. Fortunately, he did agree to drop me off but was grumpy about it and a bit snappy. He then spent the whole ride at least borderline inappropriately flirting with one of the girls on the trip— she wasn’t underage but I would guess 19 years old. He had to be in at least his mid 30’s. I was able to change out of my wet and muddy clothing and arranged to get myself to the ER using an Uber. I probably spent 8 hours in the ER where X-rays revealed I had an extremely bad break on my fibula. The best course of action would have been to have immediate surgery but of course I was out-of-network for my insurance and I would be leaving the following day, so they put a cast on the leg to immobilize it and I am now flying home to have surgery. I also had other a serious reservations related to safety — when I signed up for the trip, they did give instructions to not wear flip flops. However, many of the other people on the trip showed up with crocks or other unsafe options for hiking in difficult conditions. These people were allowed on the hike anyway and the tour operator didn’t provide any type of safer alternative. Frankly, it was amazing we didn’t have any other injuries. Further, the tour operator did not provide helmets for the rockslides or water activities— there was another company leading a tour and they all had such helmets. I am pretty adventurous, so wasn’t too worried about it personally and I am sure 99% no one gets injured. However, it is entirely possible to sustain a serious head injury by banging your head on a rock, especially for the water slides. I was surprised a company that makes its income from taking tourists to this area would take the risk of having a serious injury or even death due to a lack of protective gear.

Phenomenal day with Bryan
Amy_P
, Jul 2022
Bryan and crew were amazing. Thoughtful, informative, safe, supportive, a truly fantastic day. Swim shoes or hiking sandals highly recommended as one must embrace the mud, at times ankle deep. This was a highly well organized and most importantly super fun day!!! Go with Bryan, he is a super smart, young entrepreneur who takes pride in his business. It is clear he is a leader among his peers.

Evon’s Famila Experience!!
Lorraine_C
, Jul 2022
I would rate this a 10 if I could. It was one of the most challenging things I’ve ever done in my current physical shape. Evon was our guide we joined up with Alec’s group as well. We had the best guides in my opinion!! You can tell they love what they do. Evon was very knowledgeable and definitely respected the rain forest. They helped you overcome obstacles and were just great. It amazed me how helpful all the strangers in our group were. It was as Evon and Alec said we all became family and looked out for each other. Tips for anyone considering this, less is more, you will get dirty and wet. Make sure you have a wet bag for your phone, a bottle of water, and something to put your eyewear in the bag if necessary. Most of all shoes with great grip that can get wet and muddy but aren’t too bulky. I’m so glad I booked this activity.

The tour itself was good but the driver did not show up at our meeting spot. We had to wait there for an hour and then finally get on the bus with a different scheduled tour group. No one would answer the phone when we called.

Wow!!! What a great time! Trust and believe, wear something old that you don’t mind getting dirty, there is plenty of mud for everyone to take back with them. The guides Evelyn and Jose were magnificent. Our group had a blast, lots of laughs and memories. You get life vest, if that makes you feel more comfortable. There’s rock waterslide, ropes and a short cliff to jump from, our you can just chill and watch everyone else jumó and splash. Beware, there are lots of rocks you’ll be walking on. This is my second rainforest tour and this one was definitely better than the last. Afterwards, we spent about 30 minutes at the beach.. wish we would have had an hour, but overall you’ll enjoy this tour.

Awesome Tour!

The tour was an amazing experience. Our guides, Brian and Claire were awesome and made sure everyone in the group was taken care of and having a good time. They also were very knowledgeable and made learning about the rainforest/nature fun! One feedback point would be to provide life jackets or recommend that people bring them specifically for the water slide portion of the hike. Otherwise would highly recommend this tour to everyone!
