Departure Time

7:00 AM
Spend a day away from Paris and visit the Normandy beaches where thousands of the Allied Powers’ troops landed to free France from Axis control during World War II. During your early-morning ride aboard an air-conditioned coach to northern France, your informative guide shares fascinating commentary on the events of June 6, 1944, better known as D-Day.

Begin at the Utah Beach Museum, housed in an original German bunker and constructed on the beach where the first American troops landed. Here, learn about Operation Overlord (the Allied codename for the Normandy Invasion) and the invaluable assistance from French citizens that made a difference in the war.

Utah Beach is now home to one of only six remaining original B-26 fighter planes that were used during the invasion. Look out onto breathtaking views of the beach from inside the museum before heading down to the beach itself.

Next, head out to the countryside to a 17th-century barn with a traditional cider-making orchard, and savor some of its cider and calvados (an apple-based brandy). With your appetite opened up, settle in for a 2-course lunch at a restaurant overlooking the port of Grandcamp-Maisy. (Lunch typically includes a main course of fish or meat, dessert, and a glass of cider.)

After your meal, your coach takes you to Pointe du Hoc, a cliff-top German defense the US troops heroically seized. Continue to Colleville-sur-Mer and pay your respects to the fallen at the American Cemetery.

From the cemetery, you can see Omaha Beach, one of the landing beaches where many American soldiers are buried. Inside the Omaha Beach Visitor Centre, gain insight into the landings that did not fare accordingly to plan.

Then, board your coach for return transport to your departure point in Paris.
Itinerary
Stop At:
Musee du Debarquement Utah Beach
You’ll join your expert guide in Paris aboard a comfortable, private coach. On the way to Normandy, learn the details of the Allied preparations for D-Day, the largest amphibious assault in history. Your guide, a fluent English-speaker, will stay with you throughout the tour to tell the story of the operation and answer questions from history buffs and curious minds. On Utah Beach, your first stop, the Allies quickly defeated the German forces. You’ll visit an extraordinary D-Day museum housed in an old German bunker on the landing beach itself. The collection here brings home both the scale and the personal sacrifice involved in the operation, with an original B-26 airplane on display along with collections of soldiers’ letters home.

Stop At:
Office de Tourisme intercommunal de Grandcamp-Maisy
Next, experience some of the culture and traditions of Normandy. Many Allied soldiers found shelter with local farmers. Here, you’ll have the opportunity to tour one, featuring a 17th-century barn, locally-made apple cider and traditional apple brandy. Lunch is served at a restaurant in a quiet port nearby.

Stop At:
Pointe du Hoc
After your meal, your coach takes you to Pointe du Hoc. From Pointe du Hoc, you’ll get a sense of the challenges the Allies faced, with views of the English Channel – and intimidating cliffs blocking access inland. Cliffs combined with enemy fire to make the landing at Omaha Beach a desperate battle for survival.

Stop At:
Cimetiere Americain de Colleville-sur-Mer
We’ll also have the opportunity to pay our respects to the fallen at the American Cemetery at Colleville-sur-Mer. The cemetery is located on a bluff that overlooks Omaha Beach, which was one of the landing beaches of the D-Day invasion. Theodore Roosevelt, Jr., son of President Theodore Roosevelt and a Medal of Honor recipient, is buried here together with the almost 10,000 soldiers who sacrificed their lives. Your guide will use the time spent driving to provide enriching commentary and answer questions, preparing you for each stop on the tour. You'll have time to look around the cemetery, visit the wall of the missing and awe-inspiring memorial, and look down upon Omaha, the beach where the Allies faced the stiffest resistance and suffered the most casualties. The journey back to Paris gives you time to reflect on all you’ve seen – and the tremendous courage and sacrifice of those who fought here.

Very Moving Experience

We left Paris early in the morning and enjoyed a full day of sightseeing, tasting and learning about the history of Normandy and the D-Day landings. John was an excellent guide - very knowledgeable, but also concerned for our creature comforts. Well worth the money spent.

We had an excellent trip. Miriam was a friendly and knowledgeable guide. Of course, it would be nicer to spend more time at the museum, but you can only pack so much into one day. We thoroughly enjoyed ourselves.

An Emotional Day

It was an emotional day starting with an early departure. The 2-hour drive included a discussion of World War II causes as well as the history of the war itself. By the time we reached Utah Beach, Marion, our guide, had given us a good account of what we were seeing. The day was broken up with a lovely lunch and a cider tasting at a local apple farm. The day ended with the lowering of the flag at the American military cemetery at Omaha Beach. What a great way to honor American vets two days before Veteran's Day.

Long ride but great tour guides and important to see

It is about 4 hours each way to Normandy from Paris. That being said, they do a great job showing you the beaches at Omaha and the cliffs of Normandy where the battlefield is well-preserved. Sensi our guide made the ride seem shorter and deserves a shout out. We stopped at a cider house as well and bought some of their preserves and apple juice. It provides a moment of tourism to an otherwise somber but important day of visiting Normandy. Others complain you do not get much time at each site, but we found the time allotted (about 45 minutes) to be sufficient to see the monuments and get there and back in one day. If you want to spend more time in Normandy, I suggest an overnight trip.

Wow best tour ever! Unbelievable time and John the tour guide made it even better. Johns vast knowledge Of events leading up to D Day was so wonderful to hear. I have to omit I had tears in my eyes during different parts of the day. This is a tour you cannot miss.

Great to see where my father-in-law landed!

Seeing Utah Beach and Museum was the best, but there was not enough time allotted for it. Cider tasting was fun, but could have been shortened. Fascinating seeing craters caused by Allied bombing, German bunkers along coast, and view of coastline that Allied forces had to scale. Cemetery was very moving, especially seeing a name and date of death on every cross or star of David. Any of those could have been my father-in-law, who survived Utah Beach and told us many stories about it.

This was a long day, but well worth it. Our tour guide Addie (?) was amazing, her knowledge of Normandy and more was remarkable, and she went above and beyond to make sure everyone was enjoying their tour. Despite the rain and cold temps it was still and amazing experience!
