This activity will end right where it started.
Spend a day away from Paris and visit the Normandy beaches where thousands of the Allied Powers’ troops landed to free France from Axis control during World War II. During your early-morning ride aboard an air-conditioned coach to northern France, your informative guide shares fascinating commentary on the events of June 6, 1944, better known as D-Day.

Begin at the Utah Beach Museum, housed in an original German bunker and constructed on the beach where the first American troops landed. Here, learn about Operation Overlord (the Allied codename for the Normandy Invasion) and the invaluable assistance from French citizens that made a difference in the war.

Utah Beach is now home to one of only six remaining original B-26 fighter planes that were used during the invasion. Look out onto breathtaking views of the beach from inside the museum before heading down to the beach itself.

Next, head out to the countryside to a 17th-century barn with a traditional cider-making orchard, and savor some of its cider and calvados (an apple-based brandy). With your appetite opened up, settle in for a 2-course lunch at a restaurant overlooking the port of Grandcamp-Maisy. (Lunch typically includes a main course of fish or meat, dessert, and a glass of cider.)

After your meal, your coach takes you to Pointe du Hoc, a cliff-top German defense the US troops heroically seized. Continue to Colleville-sur-Mer and pay your respects to the fallen at the American Cemetery.

From the cemetery, you can see Omaha Beach, one of the landing beaches where many American soldiers are buried. Inside the Omaha Beach Visitor Centre, gain insight into the landings that did not fare accordingly to plan.

Then, board your coach for return transport to your departure point in Paris.
Itinerary
Stop At:
Musee du Debarquement Utah Beach
You’ll join your expert guide in Paris aboard a comfortable, private coach. On the way to Normandy, learn the details of the Allied preparations for D-Day, the largest amphibious assault in history. Your guide, a fluent English-speaker, will stay with you throughout the tour to tell the story of the operation and answer questions from history buffs and curious minds. On Utah Beach, your first stop, the Allies quickly defeated the German forces. You’ll visit an extraordinary D-Day museum housed in an old German bunker on the landing beach itself. The collection here brings home both the scale and the personal sacrifice involved in the operation, with an original B-26 airplane on display along with collections of soldiers’ letters home.
Duration: 1 hour
Admission Ticket Included
Stop At:
Office de Tourisme intercommunal de Grandcamp-Maisy
Next, experience some of the culture and traditions of Normandy. Many Allied soldiers found shelter with local farmers. Here, you’ll have the opportunity to tour one, featuring a 17th-century barn, locally-made apple cider and traditional apple brandy. Lunch is served at a restaurant in a quiet port nearby.
Duration: 1 hour
Admission Ticket Free
Stop At:
Pointe du Hoc
After your meal, your coach takes you to Pointe du Hoc. From Pointe du Hoc, you’ll get a sense of the challenges the Allies faced, with views of the English Channel – and intimidating cliffs blocking access inland. Cliffs combined with enemy fire to make the landing at Omaha Beach a desperate battle for survival.
Duration: 1 hour
Admission Ticket Included
Stop At:
Cimetiere Americain de Colleville-sur-Mer
We’ll also have the opportunity to pay our respects to the fallen at the American Cemetery at Colleville-sur-Mer. The cemetery is located on a bluff that overlooks Omaha Beach, which was one of the landing beaches of the D-Day invasion. Theodore Roosevelt, Jr., son of President Theodore Roosevelt and a Medal of Honor recipient, is buried here together with the almost 10,000 soldiers who sacrificed their lives. Your guide will use the time spent driving to provide enriching commentary and answer questions, preparing you for each stop on the tour. You'll have time to look around the cemetery, visit the wall of the missing and awe-inspiring memorial, and look down upon Omaha, the beach where the Allies faced the stiffest resistance and suffered the most casualties. The journey back to Paris gives you time to reflect on all you’ve seen – and the tremendous courage and sacrifice of those who fought here.

Great Way To See Normandy in One Day.

It was enjoyable to see what an important part of our history looks today. Also, the cider factory tour was very interesting. The battlefield with the craters and chunks of concrete lying around was impressive.

Wonderful Experience

John was awesome!!! The experience was everything that we expected. I would suggest that you cancel the cider tasting and make more time for the museum. Since most of the folks did not see many of the exhibits.

Best tour of our trip!

This was a FANTASTIC trip and our guide (Sinse) was the most knowledgeable person we’ve had the fortune to encounter; from the history of the tour to any other questions we had, he was kind & so very helpful. This day trip was the favorite part of the tour for our teen boys.

A great tour but felt rushed through the last few stops

Our guide, John, was fantastic!! An American now living in Paris, he’s a history buff so really knew his stuff and he did a wonderful job of story telling to make it all easily understood. We loved the monuments and what we got out of those visits with his narratives. The reason for four stars and not five though was our other host, Minnie. Every time we got to a stop, she practically bolted from the bus and didn’t wait for the group before walking at a fast clip. At one point she led part of the group back to the bus without alerting everyone else and then chastised all of us for being late. A suggestion also for this trip- the stop at the Orchard was kind of cool but we spent as much time there as we did at the American cemetery and since the entire reason for this tour was to see the history of the war, it felt entirely inappropriate when Minnie asked to purchased cider to bring home as gifts.

Inappropriate
Gregory_W
, Jun 2022
John criticized the US healthcare system and Minnie stated the US was late in contributing to WWII and liberating France. Unbelievable. The emphasis should have been the servicemen and women who gave the ultimate sacrifice to defeat Nazi Germany and free France. The two brought politics into the experience. Completely inappropriate and disrespectful.

Incredible Normandy Beach Experience!

The entire trip was excellent. Our tour guide John was very knowledgeable and entertaining and the places they took us really told the story of what happened and gave us a flavor of what Normandy is all about. The additional French history was a plus and helped us understand and appreciate all the amazing sites and scenery we were experiencing.

This was a long day of...

This was a long day of traveling but well worth the time. How exciting to have an American as our tour guide as he was very knowledgeable and able to relate to we tourists. Seeing Omaha Beach, Utah Beach and museum, and the American Cemetery was outstanding. We were actually able to go into a German bunker and see where the battle began. Midway to the site, we had lunch at a very cafe and even went to a cider farm and taste tested the wares. I would do this tour again in a heartbeat!

A sham of an offering - do not go
Eoghan_O

Definitely do not recommend. Very rushed, each stay was circa 40 minutes which leaves very little time to pause and reflect. Tour guide provided zero information about the places we were actually in, just generic world war history from Japan to Italy. Which is good if you’re watching YouTube but passing by the town where the first parachuter was killed behind enemy lines and not even mentioning it shows the level of historic tidbits the entire trip over. The cider tasting was interesting but it’s essentially a paid promotion. You get to sample 3 small (think 1/3 of a shot glass) of ciders which are nice but not remarkable, the rest of the time is then selling you bottles. The food at the restaurant was ok but the entire trip out there seemed pointless. We detoured from the route quite significantly to eat at some sloppy joint. On top of all this, this was due to be an 8 person trip - our bus had circa 40/50…

Tough start
Cindy_U
, Jun 2022
We signed up for a 14 hour bus tour to Normandy for up to 25 people; a sprinter van showed up instead and the guide was told by management to just pick 7 people to not go. The guide and his trainee guide had problems doing this. We sat around for over an hour for them to try to get things figured out. The company would not authorize the expenditure of a second vehicle. The owners are from Ireland . . . There was no one available to help at all. Finally some people dropped out and The tour guide was really nice

Horrible tour company

Horrible service- there were 24 guests waiting to depart but they only had a bus with 19 seats. The guide tried calling his friends to see if they could give the extra people a ride.

Two Thumbs Up
Tracy_L
, Jun 2022
The tour was amazing. My 18 year old son absolutely LOVED this tour. It was one of his must-see attractions for our European adventure. Our guide, Carmalita, was fun, energetic & very knowledgeable about the tour. The cemetery was very emotional especially since we were there at 5 pm for the lowering of the flags. The underground bunkers & exhibits were very well done. We could have spent more time at each of the three stops relating to the war. It was really neat seeing all of the French soldiers & preparations for the 60th anniversary event. My only complaint is the food during lunch & return to Paris. Our lunch was cold & bland. However, the chocolate croissants at our first stop were AMAZING. It was heaven on my lips. I would definitely suggest this tour to anyone. A couple of tips include bringing snacks & portable phone chargers as we took so many photos that our phones died & the motocoach did not have outlets for phones.

Disappointed and incorrect description of tour
Angie
, Jun 2022
I was disappointed in this tour. Only transportation. No commentary or information. Also, what to expect gave Omaha Beach as part of tour- we did not go there. When I questioned our guide I was told they used to go but not anymore. Description of tour should be accurate.

Terrible terrible terrible - this was my 2nd time
Terrie_S
, Jun 2022
Our bus drivers extreme delays at toll booths. As a result we were rushed at every location and didn’t have time to see and immerse ourselves in the history. Our guide blamed it on our tour group taking too long, not the case. I would love to talk to Viator about my trip.

Vince was an excellent host. I would suggest vans with Air Conditioning that is in working order for the trip in warm weather. But the tour was well planned and timed nicely.

The late May weather was beautiful. The guide was very informed. However, be warned and be prepared for large, loud crowds, and much traffic if you arrive on a beautiful day.
