I can’t recommend this tour enough, whether it’s your first time in Osaka or you’ve been here multiple times. Andy went out of his way to make the experience unique and personable and even stayed behind longer than the tours advertised time to have drinks and food with us. We will be booking another tour with him, if that is an indication of how fun a time we had!

Osaka Walking History-Food Tour with a Twist

This was an excellent and unique history/food walking tour, one you are unlikely to duplicate anywhere in Japan. Andy brought the history, culture and local cuisine alive by taking us to lesser known parts of Osaka. As we walked through hidden parts of Osaka we explored how Japan’s past has influenced Osaka’s current day culture, food and architecture. Andy was very in tune with our group and eager to answer any questions we had. And, of course the food was delicious! I highly recommend this tour. It won’t overlap or duplicate any other tour. It was a lovely evening walking, exploring, trying new foods, meeting new people all while seeing how the past has influenced present day Osaka.

Extremely interesting tour of places in Osaka I definitely wouldn't have come across without going on this tour. I've visited Osaka many times in the last few years but this was a much deeper, real look. Andy took us on a journey that consisted of issues such as Yakuza, the red light district, gambling, retro Osaka and great food. Highly recommended to those a bit more curious than the average person.

his tour is a great way to explore the stories of Osaka that only a few know, let alone have seen for themselves. Even native Japanese only hear about these places and Backstreet Osaka Tours will give you the opportunity to explore them. Under the guidance of relaxed people with great in-depth knowledge of the Osaka area I dare you to fire up a question of which they cannot answer. We did the Backstreets tour with Lucca and thoroughly enjoyed every moment. Lucca’s knowledge of his topic and generosity in sharing was impressive. We saw so many places in Osaka we wouldn’t have seen or heard about if we hadn’t done this walking tour. Would highly recommend but you need to be prepared for 3 hours walking. Thanks Lucca.

We went on the evening Deep Backstreet Tour on Jan. 15. Andy and Luca were our guides. We arrived late after the group had left, but Luca kindly waited for us and quickly caught us up. We visited gambling parlors, "rough" neighborhoods, Shinsekai, red light districts, shopping arcades, and other areas. Andy and Luca were both extremely knowledgeable and experienced, and kept the tour lively and well-paced. They treated us to hot street food, very appreciated on a chilly night. We could not stay for the dinner option although the rest of the group did. We would definitely go with Andy and Luca again on the other Backstreet Osaka tours. Laura & Vinson

our tour guide was Sasha. Well presented tour that makes you curious for more. We crossed over to the "slums"/ no go to tourists" area and saw some real life dirt. So glad police was called. Real people. after the tour, we all had a drink or 5 with the guides. Genuine people and a great insight to living in Osaka

really enjoyed this tour. Lots of walking but that's what you need to do to get to see these places. Guide gave a perspective from some one who is studying in Japan so gave us the gritty information along with insights into owning property in Osaka, what Pachinco is and its addictive nature, and showed us the unofficial red light district. If you want to know about the other side of the clean, seemingly crime free Osaka do this tour. Not a tour for children.

I and three friends joined this evening tour of an area of Osaka that is not heavily with tourists. We had an excellent tour guide. Learned more about Osaka’s history...had a food tasting in local market place...visited the Red Light district. I very much recommend this tour for others.

The Back Street Tour was the best tour we have experienced. Bennett and Andy took us through streets tourists would be reluctant to venture. The redlight district was an eye-opener - a must see. You'll never see anything like it. The walk through Shinsekai Osaka was great. We sampled some local foods, we learned about the homeless, and walked through ghetto. The boys are experienced, having lived in Japan for over 20years. Their knowledge was excellent. Please book yourself in for the tour. Its a must. No regrets!
