Overview

Rich history and voodoo legends make New Orleans one of the most fascinating places to visit, but if you see the sights alone, you could miss out on some of the key details that bring this vibrant city to life. Choose from two options - the voodoo walking tour takes you through the city during daylight hours—perfect for those who don’t want to get too scared, but still want a look into the city’s mysterious past. The BYOB Cemetery Insiders option is a walking tour that allows you to journey through three of New Orleans’ hallowed historical cemeteries. Bring your favorite beverage and learn of the city's burial customs and traditions. While you pass through the aisles of tombs, you'll hear stories like one of the thousands buried in the graveyard behind the Katrina Memorial. No matter which option you choose, you will leave you with feelings of trepidation and excitement, as well as an appreciation of New Orleans' incredible history.
  • Listen to your guide’s master storytelling as they dive deep into the city’s past
  • Learn the history behind above-ground burying and other New Orleans facts
  • Don't worry about getting lost with centrally located meeting points
  • Journey through three historical New Orleans cemeteries, if option chosen

    If you take the tour...

If you take the tour during the hot summers, wear a sun hat or bring an umbrella. There isn’t a ton of shade during the tour but we’ll worth it. Also, bring a bottle of water and wear comfy shoes to walk in.

The tour guide for the cemetery tour it was knowledgeable and friendly. We had a great group that asked a lot of questions which he really appreciated. The only downside is that we only got to walk through one cemetery.

I’ve been to NOLA before on a walking tour and it was much better than this one. Our guide went into a bunch of history that had nothing to do with NOLA. He also was very political. I get tired of hearing about politics, especially while on vacation.

    Just Okay

    , May 2022
Pace of the tour was great, especially because of the heat. But the tour itself was lacking from the description on the website. Great info about the cemetery ( even though you dont go in) almost nothing about voodoo and the tour ended on the corner of the french quarter, in the total opposite direction of where we started, so we had to find our way back.

I enjoyed the mass grave and hurricane Katrina memorial. The 1st cemetery we weren't allowed in and the other two were ok. Stories not very interesting and was hoping for some older cemeteries.
icon Response from Host , May 2022
Hi Melissa-- most of these cemeteries are from the mid 1800s and currently there are very few cemeteries open to the public in the city! I'm sorry to hear the tour did not reach your expectations-- we are working hard to try to get all cemeteries in the city open to the public!
