Return Details

Returns to original departure point
Choose a morning or afternoon tour and meet your airboat at the embarkation point in the town of Lafitte, an historic fishing village named for notorious 19th‐century pirate and privateer Jean Lafitte, located approximately 30 miles (48 km) from New Orleans. Prearranged coach pickup is also available from your downtown New Orleans or French Quarter hotel.

Upon arriving at the airboat launch site, board a large airboat holding 15 to 25 passengers or a small airboat limited to six to eight passengers. Hold on tight as you airboat takes off into the tidewater cypress swamp near Jean Lafitte National Historical Park and Preserve. Enjoy close proximity to the water from your seat in the flat‐bottomed airboat. As you zip through the bayou, check out signature cypress trees dripping with moss and massive tupelo‐gum tree rising straight from the water.

Depending on the season, you may spot alligators basking in sun on the shore or lurking in the water. Rest assured that the swamps are teeming with wildlife year‐round. Spot turtles, snakes, raccoons, nutria and many native birds –  you may even spot a bald eagle!

Your airboat tour ends at the embarkation point. Before leaving this iconic Cajun town, pop into the local albino alligator exhibit or grab a delectable shrimp Po' boy to go (own expense). Then drive or board your coach back to New Orleans. Note: This tour does not include hotel pick‐up or drop‐off unless hotel pickup and drop‐off is selected at checkout. If you have selected hotel pickup and drop‐off please specify your hotel details at the time of checkout or advise the local operator directly after booking.
Itinerary
Pass By:
Mississippi River
Drive-out along the Mississippi River approximately 30 miles (48 km) to the embarkation point of your airboat from your New Orleans hotel. Depending on the option you selected, board a large airboat holding 15 to 25 passengers or a small airboat limited to six to eight passengers for a more intimate, personalized experience.
Stop At:
Jean Lafitte National Historical Park and Preserve
Set out on a 20,000-acre (8,095-hectare) tract of tidewater cypress swamp close to the Jean Lafitte National Historical Park and Preserve. Your airboat is powered by an aircraft propeller to allow a fast, fluid trip through the shallow marshes. Feel the wind on your face as you zip into bayous lined with mossy cypress and tupelo-gum trees. Prepare to see plenty of alligators in the warmer months (and warmer days in winter), some of which may be out sunning themselves on rocks! Your guide may even feed the gators, affording amazing photo opportunities. Keep your eyes open for turtles, snakes, egrets, herons and ibis. You may even catch sight of a hawk, owl or bald eagle. In the cooler months, look for white-tailed deer, raccoons and the large rodents known as nutria. Be sure to check out the indoor exhibits of alligators, including an albino alligator. Note: This tour does not include hotel pick-up or drop-off unless option selected at checkout.

A must tour for your trip down south. We took many tours and this one was by far the best. Our tour guide was personable and knowledgeable. The airboats are fun to fly around on as well!

Amazing Experience!

The airboat ride was an amazing experience. I will be returning this year, once the weather gets warm. I've learned so much and I highly recommend the smallest airboat. The speed is an adrenaline rush and it really does get deep into the bayou. Our tour guide was so humble, he knew every inch of the bayou/river.

Great entertaining guide. Fun experience but ZERO gators or turtles. I understand it’s cold season so maybe Dont charge as much during this season.

Nice ride, will go again!

It was cold and rainy and we still had a great time. The captain was entertaining and informative. Due to the cold we only spotted a couple gators, but we know there's no way to control that! We still had fun!

Great Tour!!

Cory was our guide! He was great! Took us to quite a few spots where we saw about 5-6 gators, some turtles and he called a racoon that came running, ran up a tree for a marshmallow. The boat ride was very smooth and loud but they provide ear protection which is much appreciated. A very fun time, would recommend!

Great experience and really knowledgeable guide! We were concerned we wouldn’t see any wildlife going in February but we still saw three gators and tons of turtles and beautiful birds. Even a bald eagle flying over! Highly recommend!

We had Steve as our captain and he was an excellent narrator of facts for the area. And he also was able to get us into so many areas we are able to see maybe 10 or 15 alligators in our to our trip!

Captain Corey was awesome. We saw several alligators even a large mature alligator in January. Worth it! I only wish the bus picking us up wasn’t late so we could have explored more before the boat ride.
