NOT a family friendly place!
, Jun 2021
I booked this hands-on experience to celebrate my sister’s 40th birthday. My sister and her daughter LOVE to cook, and since Crescent City Cooks is no longer in business (where we’ve taken a previous class), we booked with The Mardi Gras School of Cooking. Each class is for 10, and I booked 7 spots for my family. Our family consisted of 4 adults, 2 teens, 1 child, and 1 infant. We experienced 3 major issues with the owner: 1) The owner arrived on site, after we had started our cooking class, and walked through the class with her dog while we were cooking. Unsanitary and unacceptable. 2) The owner came out of her office 15-20 minutes after her arrival to tell me she thought my infant (7 1/2 months old) was crying, but he was just really happy and babbling like babies do. She talked to the baby, pretending to be interested in him, but clearly she just wanted him to be quiet. She then returned to her office. 3)The class, which consisted of mostly my family, and 2 other individuals taking the class, continued on with the lesson. As my son continued to babble, the owner returned to our class to tell my 13-year old niece to take “her” baby to her office. When my niece informed the owner the child was mine and not hers, the owner rudely demanded we quiet the baby and leave if he wouldn’t stop his babbling. This is after we spent nearly $1,300 for 7 of the 10 spots for the cooking class (we originally booked all 10 spots for the celebration). My son babbled for maybe 15-20 minutes of a 3 hour class, as he was off and on asleep. When he babbled, everyone was still participating, asking questions of the chef, and overall having a great time. We ended up leaving early, and the owner’s rude behavior and demand for us to leave over a happy baby babbling, ruined the whole vibe of my sister’s 40th birthday! The owner never apologized. She never offered a refund to us after she demanded we leave. Her behavior was disgusting, and I’ve never experienced such nasty behavior. The Mardi Gras School of Cooking is NOT family friendly. She made my entire family very uncomfortable, adults and children alike. Don’t waste your time or your money there…especially if you are bringing your family. We’ll never return, and if I were you, I’d pass this school on by and book with people who treat their customers with dignity and respect.

UNACCEPTABLE this group had no respect for the School, The Chef nor the other patrons. They allowed the baby to screech, not babble, much of the time. The family would screech with him to make him screech more. The whole group seemed to be in a screaming match. The most unruly group we’ve ever experienced. They were NOT asked to leave, they were asked twice to quiet the baby by bringing him to my office. As I tell everyone that asks about an age limit, those who attend must love to cook and not disrupt class.

Having someone to answer questions about cooking. The chef had great information on Cajun food. The results were delicious.
This class was a fantastic way to begin our stay in New Orleans.

We had a blast, you will too. While we know it helped to have a class full of cool people, Chef Conner was skilled, informative, and entertaining. He took time to speak with each of us throughout the evening and tuned the class to our group. We cannot wait to try the recipes at home and will likely add a cooking class to our future itineraries. Thanks Chef! The only thing that we would change is that, in hindsight, we should have thought to buy some of the Cajun seasoning at the time. But that is really on us.
Fantastic and highly recommend

We had a such a fantastic time and loved learning so much from the cook. We especially loved the tips and tricks showed us that we could do some of the same things at home.

Chef Didei had some fantastic stories and kept the class moving along. Our wine glasses were never empty. We learned some new knife tricks too! Went with my mom to celebrate her 60th birthday. Absolutely worth the price. Great lesson from an awesome chef!

The great and inviting personality as well as the practical knowledge of the chef. Being solo can be hard but he was very accommodating and kind to keeping me from feeling like a third wheel. I liked it so much I booked another class today!

Chef Byron impressed us with his great attitude, ambition, knowledge, and skills. We learned a lot about Cajun cooking and tricks for all cooking. Our food was the best we had on our trip. We really enjoyed the class!

My husband & I had so much fun with delicious authentic NOLA food. Only 4 of us & the small intimate group was exactly what the experience needed. Our chef was funny and gave us a list of recommendations for our stay. Couldn’t have asked for a better experience!
