8:15 AM
Pickup from any major downtown New Orleans hotel. If you hotel is not listed please list in comments area. For pickups, there will be a 30 minute window. Pickup will be between 8:15 AM and about 8:45 AM. Please be on the lookout for a bus that says Alert Transportation.
After hotel pickup in New Orleans, you're driven to the Oak Alley Plantation, located among the Great River Road sugar plantations alongside the Mississippi River. On arrival, stroll under majestic, 300-year-old oak trees leading up to the antebellum Big House, and take a tour of the opulent mansion with a guide dressed in period costume. The Greek Revival architecture was built in 1837 and later restored in 1925.

Wander the 25-acre (10-hectare) grounds at your own pace during your free time. Visit the blacksmith shop, snap photos of antique farm equipment, or peruse exhibits on slavery and the Civil War. Grab lunch and beverages at the restaurant or cafe (own expense) before the tour moves to the swamp.

Next, board the bus and drive to the site of your swamp tour. On arrival, board a 16-passenger airboat with stadium-style seating for a high-speed adventure through the swamp. You'll have unobstructed views of wildlife, including an up-close look at the star attraction: alligators.

Your captain is experienced at searching out these reptiles, even during hibernation in colder months. The airboat, propelled by a large fan that blows air from the back of the vessel, can produce speeds of up to 35 mph (56 kph). You'll ride in just inches of water into parts of the swamp that are inaccessible to traditional boats or vehicles.

Good tours but need better drivers or a better plan
Sarah_H

Had no plan for pickup in the morning. How about trying a route planner/ optimizer? You put in the addresses and it spits out the best route! Some people did not get picked up until after 9am, with a 8:15-8:45 pickup time. Traffic was not an issue lack of a planned route was. Gary was great, very entertaining and loved that he shared his personal experience during Katrina. Recommend have a small cooler of bottled water for sell! It was 1000 degrees! The plantation was very pretty but had almost no time explore the grounds and get lunch. The tour was a bit lacking and the guide was hard to understand. Found it odd that they didn’t mention that the plantation had been used in some films to include Interview with the Vampire. The air boat tour was a lot of fun and the captain was very knowledgeable about the area and the gators. Very educational, loved it! Showed up 20 minutes late for pickup from airboat tour. Had people baking in the hot sun instead of telling people which bus to get on. Try printing a sign with hotel names, a marker board, or sending a text with the bus number to get on. Inappropriate music playing on the bus when we switched buses from plantation to airboat tour. Driver was rude when I said could you let us on the bus so we can be in the shade and AC. If we need to switch buses it is too easy to switch. There were several older folks that did not need to be standing on the hot pavement in the full sun!

Fun, but needed more time!

The Plantation Tour was rushed. It would have been nice to have more time to walk around after the House tour. The actual tour was very good. We needed to eat lunch at the restaurant before the next tour (Swamp Tour) and we barely had time to finish. The Swamp Airboat tour was a lot of fun.

Thank you for your feedback! Due to the distance of the Oak Alley Plantation, that is the best we can do for guests that want do the combo in one day.

True Louisiana…

Everyone from the driver, the tour guides at the Oak Alley Plantation, and the airboat captains had a sense of humor and knowledge on the subject. Definitely would recommend this as you see the true way of life down here in Louisiana.

Unexpected

The plantation grounds are great but a bit disappointed that you can’t photograph inside the property, yet people can take drinks that drink on the floor and backpacks through without a worry? The airboat tour is great!! The captains are very knowledgeable about the area and the animals you see, and riding through the waterways is a great way to see them

educational and exciting

An educational and exciting trip through the bayous and backwaters. After that, a short bus ride back into history to the Oak Alley plantation. If you go to "NOLA", this is a must.
