Departure Time

8:15 AM
After hotel pickup in New Orleans, you're driven to the Oak Alley Plantation, located among the Great River Road sugar plantations alongside the Mississippi River. On arrival, stroll under majestic, 300-year-old oak trees leading up to the antebellum Big House, and take a tour of the opulent mansion with a guide dressed in period costume. The Greek Revival architecture was built in 1837 and later restored in 1925.

Wander the 25-acre (10-hectare) grounds at your own pace during your free time. Visit the blacksmith shop, snap photos of antique farm equipment, or peruse exhibits on slavery and the Civil War. Grab lunch and beverages at the restaurant or cafe (own expense) before the tour moves to the swamp.

Next, board the bus and drive to the site of your swamp tour. On arrival, board a 16-passenger airboat with stadium-style seating for a high-speed adventure through the swamp. You'll have unobstructed views of wildlife, including an up-close look at the star attraction: alligators.

Your captain is experienced at searching out these reptiles, even during hibernation in colder months. The airboat, propelled by a large fan that blows air from the back of the vessel, can produce speeds of up to 35 mph (56 kph). You'll ride in just inches of water into parts of the swamp that are inaccessible to traditional boats or vehicles.

Excellent trip!

The swamp boat tour with Brad was excellent! He was super knowledgeable! The plantation tour was excellent and shoed the contrasts between the live of the slaves and the plantation owner’s family. Very importantly, it reminds of is the horrors of slavery.

Awesome Captain Adams on swampboat, very informative. Described wetlands and habitat. I last visited Oak Alley 20 years ago. Kudo's to the foundation. The grounds and new gardens are awesome

Awesome NOLA Experience!

Amazing experience! Shuttle from hotel was right on time, I called their customer service line to ask where to stand for shuttle pick-up and assistant was polite and easily answered my questions. I traveled alone and felt completely comfortable the entire time. We did the air boat ride first and it was awesome! Our guide Dewey, was a knowledgeable, fun, and down-to-earth guy. (Dress warm for the air boat ride if it's at all chilly out! Would recommend also wearing a rain jacket or windbreaker. They did have blankets to rent at the gift shop, which I am very happy I took advantage of.) After the air boat, we loaded back onto the shuttle for the ride to the plantation. We spent about 2 hours at the plantation with a 45 minute guided-tour included. This was a very good time frame for the site. I did not feel rushed, and I had amble time to wander on my own. There's a cafe and large gift store on site with some great food and gift options and outdoor eating space. This was my first time using a Viator-booked event and will definitely use their excursions in the future.

Wonderful day! Both tours were great, and a nice complement to each other. Our driver was a gem and shared her personal Katrina story with us. Overall just a unique, one of a kind excursion. My family and I loved it!!!

Tours and the way they incorporated information about house living and slave living. The kinds of hours required to make the plantation work.

Great Experience

Great seeing Oak Alley again but wish they would have kept the antebellum costumes for the tour guides as it added to the experience. The boat tour was fantastic and the guide we had was very informative on gators and conservation. Would recommend this tour to all. The bus drivers were a lot of fun and kept the drives interesting.

Ernie from the Louisiana Tour Company was excellent! Aside from the awesome and memorable airboat ride, he gave insightful, ecologically minded narrations that caused one to pause and think. The plantation tour was equally impressive!

Airboat is a must

The airboat tour was amazing. Our captain was very informative and funny. I would highly recommend the airboat. The plantation tour was fine but we have had more informative tour guides at other plantations.

Awesome once in a lifetime event

This was a awesome experience I wish we would’ve had a little more time to roam around the plantation. We did both tours so we wanted to eat and it felt like we had to rush but the tour itself was very good and the food is excellent. The swamp tour was awesome we got up close to a lot of alligators and Dewy our guide was very informative and he did a wonderful job. I would definitely recommend this to everyone I see.
