Nice Saturday
Piotr_S
, Dec 2020
It was a really nice Saturday. First the pyramids and then the bike tour. The area is flat, so no unusually high level of fitness is required to complete the tour. There are also several stops by the way. The staff was also very friendly. The only disadvantage now is the fact that it is not possible to climb the pyramids, but they are so spectacular and worth to visit anyways.

Great day out seeing the pyramids and cycling around the area seeing the surroundings. Really enjoyed the tour and the guide was great. Unfortunately because of covid restrictions couldn’t climb the temples and enter some of the other buildings. Otherwise would be 5 stars

Teotihuacán Off the Beaten Path

From the ride from CDMX to the return trip (thanks again Angeles!) we had a really great time. The pyramid site is pretty large and our extremely knowledgeable Viator guide deftly navigated us around the crowds, all the while giving us some facts about the site and culture. I'm a bit of a history buff so I knew some history about the site, but now I know a lot more after this tour. After the pyramid visit, which was the walking part of the tour, the day was really just getting started. We choose the bike tour* (the other option was driving/walking to the following places), and visited some of the most interesting people. We learned about some of the ancient tribes exumed burial sites. The contents and pattern of items in grave, gives lots of clues. Also how this ancient knowledge continues to be passed down. Back on the bikes, we visited a family and who showed us how the ancients made clay figurines, using the same original materials and techniques. Visited a chocolate maker, who specializes in using the natural way of extracting, roasting and turning the cocoa beans into delicious bars of different flavors. This was all accomplished using all natural ingredients. Our final stop was walking several meters inside a cave where it is likely some of the ancients may have worshiped. The lunch was also excellent, of the three options given, we chose to visit La Gruta, which is a restaurant inside a cave (different cave), both the meal and the service was excellent. • While we didn't have issues with the bike part of tour (we cycle hundreds of miles a year), it's probably not recommended if your aren't in excellent shape and comfortable on a mountain bike riding on challenging terrain.

A magical experience

Wow! One word that sums up my incredible day spent at Teotihuacan. Everything was 5 stars, from the timely pickup to the friendly service to the overall experience. Although the tour was a bit different from what was described on the website (no bicycles, no climbing the pyramids), I had expected changes due to COVID-19. In addition to receiving a fantastic tour and explanation of the pyramids and their rich history, I also got to visit a family-owned ceramics studio and chocolate factory. (The drinking chocolate was outstanding!) Another highlight I didn't expect was exploring a network of caves and learning about the ancient people who lived there. Lunch at the cave restaurant provided an interesting atmosphere. I felt so comfortable with Felipe. He really went out of his way to ensure I was enjoying the trip. Highly recommend this sustainability-focused tour to all!

Wonderful Way to See Parts of the Teotihuacan Not Normally Visited

Fantastic tour. We were met across the street from our hotel (in the Centro Historico) by Angeles who drove us out to their office in San Franciso Mazapa, within sight of the piramids, to pick up our bicycles. There we met our guide Jorge who we spent the rest of the day with. Jorge is a really solid, professional local guide ... well informed, personable, and in touch with both the site at Teotihuacan and many of the people who work in and around the site. He was able to guide us not only through the very busy main archaeological zone, but also to several of the outlying sights where most people never go (and where some of the best preserved murals are found), such as the apartment complex of Tetitla. We had a break in the early afternoon for an excellent freshly prepared snack, and afterward we were taken to a small, local, family run restaurant for a wonderful meal of traditional dishes, typical of the region.

Great time...

This was a fun day. I was picked up at my meeting spot and driven to the tour. The crew was both attentive and fun. After a quick sign-in we (a group of 3) were given the choice of bikes. I had not ridden in years.. You never forget how to ride..is true. Our guide gave us lots of information at each of our stops. His pride and love of his home land was shown in the stories he told us along the way. We climbed both Quetzalcoatl, Sun and Moon pyramids. Then stopped where we were treated to a fresh cooked casadia. Later we were taken to Teotihuacan Restaurant Cave, for lunch. This place was amazing. I would recommend this tour A+++

Our guide, Eloy, was incredibly knowledgeable and close with the community. We learned so much, had a great time biking, and enjoyed a delicious lunch! I would definitely do this again. We got to see and learn about places that 95% of tourists skip.

Teotihuacan Experience

This was an excellent tour! We cannot say enough good things about our driver and our guide, Miguel. We had a pick up at our hotel, an hour drive to their office in Teotihuacan. Once their we were offered coffee and provided with a locker for purse and backpack. They also provided us with a light backpack and water. We first walked to a small Aztec home site that may have housed 40+ people. Next we spent time at the Religious Center. Our guide gave us time to climb the Pyramid of the Sun and the Pyramid of the Moon. While we walked along the Avenue of the Dead he gave us so much information and tried to be very clear that information is only a probability as their is not much known except from the evidence that the archeological dogs provide. We stopped for a snack after this site before proceeding to 2 more larger homesites. We also got to see an obsidian workshop where the raw obsidian is cut / carved into replications of items found in archeological sites. Finally we were taken to the most unusually beautiful restaurant inside a cave. Food was great, waiter spoke fluent English and was quite attentive, and we also had wonderful entertainment. I would highly recommend this tour!
