What To Expect
After hotel pickup from Mexico City, travel with your guide southeast to Cholula, just outside of Puebla. Head inside Cholula’s Archaeology (Park Zona Arqueológica) and visit the world’s largest pyramid — the Great Pyramid of Cholula, aka Tlachihualtepetl, towering at 180 feet (55 meters) with a square base of 1,300 feet (396 meters).
From the pyramid base, look up to see the Church of Our Lady of the Remedies perched on the summit. Hear about how Hernan Cortes ordered the construction of 365 churches on this site, one for every day of the year.
Then, your guide takes you to the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Puebla, a city where buildings are sculpted out of freestone and covered with painted ceramic tiles. The charming city boasts 70 churches in its historic district alone. Swing by the 16th-century Church of Santo Domingo, whose plain gray and pink exterior belies the opulence inside. Next, visit the Chapel of the Rosary, part of the Church of Santo Domingo and once considered the eighth wonder of the art world. Admire the gilded stucco inside this example of Mexican Baroque architecture.
Gaze at the serene-blue Convent of Santa Monica, now the home of the Museum of Religious Art. Finally, visit onyx and Talavera ceramics factories, and learn about how these artisanal items are crafted, before enjoying transport back to your hotel.

Not what I expected from the online booking description!

The site at Cholulu and historic Puebla. However, my tickets stated 900 a.m. and I had said the four seasons hotel across the street from the Ritz Carlton where I was staying, but the pick up time was never sent to me. It actually was 8:15am!! Also, 13 hours is too long and there was a lot of wasted time. My friend and I were the only English speakers of the 16 in the group. The bad microphone is not loud enough to hear. Also once the explanation was given in Spanish everyone began speaking about it while the guy was trying to repeat it in English. It doesn’t work. When I signed up for the tour online in the states I specifically said English. I do complement Francisco for doing the best he could with a group that were not very disciplined in time or gathering.
Highly recommend

Very long and boring trip
Jan_B
, Jan 2022
The trip would be chaotic and poorly organized. I understand that the driver was also a guide, so it was difficult. The guide never said exactly what time the departure was, so it was still waiting. In Cholula we waited for an hour for tickets and in the end we saw the arena only behind the fence. We wanted to go to the temple on the hill, but we wouldn't make it because it was only 15 minutes of free time. Finally, we waited an hour for departure. In Puebla we spent the most time in a restaurant, we went on a tour of the city when it was getting dark. We didn't see anything from the city except the temple. We spent 1 hour in the pottery workshop.
The trip was extremely long and boring, we saw almost nothing. It was a waste of time. I do not highly recommend this agency.
Response from Host , Jan 2022
Dear Jan Bartusek
Thank you very much for your comments, they are really very important and useful for us.
Fortunately, during the end of the year holidays, we had many visitors, therefore a lot of influx in the tourist sites; In order to make better use of the time, it was agreed with the passengers whether to continue with the tour or prefer to wait to enter the archaeological zone, and the majority decided to continue.
Thanks to your comments, we will talk with Francisco so that he can better organize his time.
We hope to be able to make up for your experience with our services in the near future, we cordially greet you.

In traffic for 10 hours, tour ended upbeing only 4 hours and guide decided to go to "palace, which wasn't part of tour which added 1.5 hours and a total waste if time. Lunch ended up being dinner and we rushed through Pueblo which was the best part.
Response from Host , Nov 2021
Dear Tracy,
Thank you very much for your comments.
Unfortunately the highway to Puebla it’s being repaired, besides we were on holidys, so the traffic increases razonably.
Our guide tried to fulfill all the program and stablished with all the group the hour to have lunch to take advantage of the time.
Puebla and Cholula are beautiful places, we regret you did not have a pleasant experience.
Best regards.
Nice, need more time

The tour is good, but it was rushed through the cities and lunch took too long. Maybe time change to earlier, so we can really enjoy the tour. Our tour guide Javier really tried to get us to see everything.
Response from Host , Oct 2021
Dear Noemi,
Thank you very much for your comments, they are really appreciated.
We will consider to begin earlier the tour, above all on Saturdays, since there is more people, so the traffic and the waiting in the restaurants increases considerably.
Thank you again for your time, hope see you in a near future, best regards.
On resume, it was a great trip

Great day tour to Puebla and Cholula. The guide was interesting and let us the necessary free time to also discover the places by ourselves. We recommend it!
Disappointing experience due to tour company and guide
Mariellen_H
, Feb 2020
A disappointing day. Drive to Cholula was fine with a pit stop for restroom and refreshments. However when we got to the archeological site our guide did not through the tunnel with us so we got no explanation of anything like the group in front of us did. Once we met guide on other side he spent 90% of his time explaining features in Spanish and expected the English speaking clients to stand and wait for a very brief explanation leaving us little time for pictures or to read the placards that gave a more thorough explanation. Spanish group got additional time to climb up hill to see church on top of pyramid where as English speaking group only had time to run up and back to make it down by departure time.
From here we went to Puebla which seems to be a charming city. The church we went to was beautiful but little explanation in English. Lunch was quite good but from here we went to the most disappointing craft market I have ever experienced, almost everything their was junk, vendors were even rude!
3 hour ride back to city without a bathroom stop.
I would not reccomend using Mexitours, especially if it is a bilingual tour.

I never went cancelled in time but were never issued a refund. I'll never use Viator again. I've called customer support multiple times but was told that even though I called when 24 hours if had to be 24 hours before the actual 24 hours. Yes I know it sounds crazy that's the same exact thing I said.
I'll never use or reccomend Viator.
A Long, Full Day. Well Worth the Price and the Time
Thomas_P
, Feb 2020
A very full day that started at 08:15 and went well after 20:00. The van was comfortable and meeting new people (both English and Spanish speaking) was very pleasant. A beautiful drive through the pine-forested mountains with views of Iztaccíhuatl. It was MUCH appreciated that plenty of opportunities for bathroom and water breaks were provided.
Cholula is a delightful town in and of itself, however, the "pyramid" and the Church of Our Lady of Remedies on top were great. Please be advised that you will be disappointed not to find much of an actual stonework pyramid. The original structure is still there but has been buried by centuries of dirt, but you will realize that the structure underneath is massive. The trip to the top (where the Church is) can be gruelling. The path is very long and steep but it is a good surface and the views from the top should NOT be missed.
Where to start with Puebla. As much as you will see on the tour, it will only lead you to realize that you could spend days in this city. Several beautiful and historic churches, wonderful paseos and shopping areas, a vibrant central plaza, great food and wonderful people.
We headed back home at 5 PM totally exhausted but well satisfied.
The tour company will pick you up and return to your hotel, but it might be easier to Uber to the central departure point as you may be the last one delivered back after the trip. That may add as much as an hour or more to you day and you will be tired.
Excellent Tour

My tour guide Pablo was great. Very informative. Loved the tour. Puebla and Cholula were great cities.
Only thing I would add would be to give the tour guide a microphone while we were walking about Puebla so we could hear him better. I had to stay close to him so I could hear him.
Long drive from Mexico City, but worth it!

, Jan 2020
The church in Cholula was neat to see, but the highlight of the trip was historic Puebla. Although it was technically a guided tour, our guide allowed us the option once we arrived in Puebla to either have lunch with him at the prearranged lunch location and have a guided tour of the city's historic center, or to venture on our own and meet up with the group at a predetermined time. I chose the second option and had a blast wandering through the zocalo and surrounding area on my own. Highly recommend!
A long day trip visiting Cholula and Puebla
Ganesh_M
, Dec 2019
This was an almost 12.5 hour day trip. So be prepared for a long day. Both locations were interesting and had historic sites to visit. The pyramid at Cholula is really not visible other than small sections here and there. The church at the top of the hill under which the pyramid resides was nice to see. Puebla too was interesting although nothing spectacular.
Lunch was included with this trip and was horrible - quite possibly the worst ever at a Mexican restaurant anywhere in the world. We are vegetarians and usually have no problem anywhere. At this Mexican restaurant we had vegetable soup (which was good), pasta (Italian style?) and zucchini heaped with cheese - so anything but Mexican food. We had informed Mexitours when we booked that we were vegetarians, but our tour guide was unaware and seemed confused as to what to do when we told her we were vegetarians.
Our tour guide seemed knowledgeable by was very loud over the bus intercom and difficult to understand especially as she switched between Spanish and English
Response from Host , Jan 2020
We really appreciate your comments, they are very helpful for us.
Certainly Puebla and Cholula are interesting places to visit far away from the City.
We regret the lunch was not to your liking; The Colonial restaurant was chosen because of it´s quality and taste and of course they have variety to offer vegetarian food, we are going to talk with our guides to put more attention about this matter, as well about the bus intercom to give our visitos an excellent service as you deserve.
Thank you again for your comments, and hope to see you soon in a near future.
Please receive our best regards.
An entertaining tour to Puebla and Cholula

I really enjoyed this tour. Our tour director, Pablo nicknamed himself Paul McCartney and our drive Arthur was nicknamed as ArthurD2. It works, that's how I remember their names! Pablo had a great sense of humor and it shows how much he enjoys his job. He's welcoming, organized and explained things well. The lunch included was pretty good and I'm glad we decided to make this tour to experience Puebla and Cholula!
Uniquely Enjoyable Day Tour
Steve_C
, Sep 2019
We thoroughly enjoyed our visits to Cholula and Puebla. Cities are rich in history and culture and many beautiful and ornate churches dot the areas. It was a full day of unique and memorable experiences. Our guide, Miguel, did an excellent job shepherding the group and masterfully highlighting details about the iconic landmarks and points of interests. He is knowledgeable, courteous, punctual, and possesses a sense of humor. Cholula is picturesque and peaceful. Its idyllic setting is captivating. The stroll through the open-air market towards the Great Pyramid and Church of Our Lady of the Remedies is a pleasant experience. There, you can taste fried grasshoppers if you’re up for it. The pyramid today resembles a hill. It succumbed to overgrowth many centuries ago. The conquering Spaniards constructed the church on the summit unaware the largest pyramid in the world lay under it. Interestingly the pathway to the church is through a 300-foot archeological tunnel hallowed out in the hill. The shrine itself is beautiful and offers a panoramic view of the surrounding area in all directions. It’s also located at the foot of a still-active volcano, which on a clear day offers a breathtaking view. Unfortunately, on the day of our visit the volcano was masked by cloudy skies. Puebla is equally appealing. Our first stop was lunch, which was excellent. Puebla is a World Heritage Site and birthplace of the Cinco de Mayo annual celebration when Mexican Forces defeated the French Army in the Battle of Puebla. French influence and architecture are prominent throughout the city center. It reminds us of New Orleans. Of all the churches we visited, the Church of Santo Domingo in Puebla is the most beautiful. Its intricate and ornate gold gilded art throughout the church is stunning. The memories we developed will last a lifetime. For these reasons, we found the time and cost of the tour well worth it.
A great educational and fun Day

We had a wonderful time. I thank the guide (Eduardo) for providing an explanation of everything in both Spanish and English. He was very knowledgeable, friendly and entertaining. We gained a great insight to the history of Mexico and its people. We saw many amazing features of the area and got some terrific photo’s. The lunch that was included couldn’t be better; it really added to the experience.
Overall it was excellent value for money and I’d recommend it to anyone.
