Great adventure - easy, even for old folks!

A word of advice for all who are considering a kayaking/snorkeling tour on Maui . . . do NOT go with anyone other than John. ;-) John is a delightful, skillful, and educated tour guide. Like all top professionals, John makes what he does look easy. He quickly bonded us together as a group, assessed our skill levels, educated us, entertained us, and got us in the water with ease and finesse. Not that we were remedial but John took more time preparing us and our equipment on the beach (before getting in the water) than any other tour guide. Out on the water he shared volumes of information on the island, Hawaiian culture and language, the local waters, and its flora and fauna - all the while keeping us safe. When ALL the other tour guides were sitting on top of their kayaks watching their 'flocks' snorkel - John was in the water leading us to places he was well acquainted with (including caves and reefs where he ‘knew’ the wildlife that lived there). Swimming alongside a huge turtle is an experience my wife will treasure forever. Knowing where this particular turtle lived and how long she would stay down before needing to come up for air was an amazing bit of knowledge John had. Knowing to have the group be patient, wait and give the turtle 'room' to surface was a way to allow us to wonderful encounter. When we returned to the beach all the other tours were gone and their tour guides were packed up. It turns out, John had spent almost an hour longer with us! John made us feel as though we had an insider's connection to the island of Maui. You are certain to enjoy John's fun personality and his respectful way of viewing life. He provided us precious memories we cherish already. Thank you! Dirk and Karen

Fun family outing

Roger made sure we had a good experience. Weather looked rough for the later tour (for which we were booked) so he texted me and let us take advantage of the earlier one. Snorkeling equipment was top well, no leaking or fogging. The guys were chatty and kept us engaged while we kayaked. The actual snorkeling was just ho-hum. Nothing to write home about. But the overall experience was great. Even my two teenagers who had to get up at 6 AM were happy that they did!

Glad you took our early tour advice to heart. While early, the early morning tour provides calmer waters and better visibility for snorkeling. We recommend guests to participate as soon as they arrive to Maui as getting up early typically is not a problem as they adjust to the new time zone (most are up on their home time zone so its quite easy).
Not the best

I’m giving the tour a two because of the wind we were not able to see much. Also our instructor had a very negative and sarcastic attitude from the beginning and did not make it a very enjoyable experience. He made us feel like if we messed up he would just make fun of us. I think we would have had a better experience with a different instructor.

Aloha - Apologies that you got caught in the windier part of the day here on Maui. Trade winds can and do come up on our later tours and is why we have a 16+ age limit on this particular departure time. This past winter has been somewhat challenging as normally these winds calm down significantly during the winter months. Our guides work hard to provide an memorable experience and truly enjoy their interactions with island visitors. Like with any service profession, it can be challenging at times and while our guides are normally quite "charming", they can experience some lackluster days with daily challenges. We will make sure to follow up with them and urge them to take a "health" day as needed. Thank you for bringing this to our attention.
Worth the trip!

Jake was our tour guide and did an AMAZING job! he was very helpful for our first time kayaking and gave us some great tips. He shared some great stories and we even got to see a mother and baby whale. the snorkeling was great & clear, and there were lots of places to free drive as well. i HIGHLY recommend doing this tour!

We were not able to have the experience. Disappointed that our adventure was cancelled, but very thankful that they are on top of safety for their customers. Next trip I take, I will look to book with them again.

Aloha - Apologies your tour was cancelled as as result of the strong shore break - however safety is our primary concern followed by experience. Mahalo for your understanding.
A good morning workout!

Aloha Richard and thanks for taking the time. You choose well as Makena is the TOP spot for kayaking & snorkeling. Great reefs and underwater world there. Glad you enjoyed Jake and his unique style - he's quite the character. Hope you enjoyed Maui enough to come back one day soon. Aloha.
Absolutely horrific experience

Worst tour of our lives! The winds were insane. They should have canceled. We really felt like they put us in danger. Not only did we not see 1 turtle. We were happy to get back to land in 1 piece. It was really so terrible. I wouldn't do this tour again if you paid me. Ask my kids about kayaking to turtles in Maui. They're scarred from this experience.

Aloha and thank you for your feedback. We're sorry you found the conditions to be outside of your comfort level, Upon review, you attended our 1030 tour which is specifically designated for guests 16 years of age plus as a result of conditions that often become windy. Weather changes just like anywhere and the winds can come up at any time - less likely on our 715 time but its mother nature. This is specifically the reason we always recommend the 715 tour time. Our guides are some of the safest in the business - they have complete autonomy on cancelling tours for weather conditions unlike many other operators.

Good guides great area - need to cancel the later tours
, Mar 2021
Guides were great and this location was wonderful to start from. We kayaked the area and snorkeled. Would mention that they should not have a later tour and they mentioned it’s always too windy & wavy so to charge people for a shorter lives tour seems like a bad idea.
