Easy ride with beautiful views

Cowboy Larry provided a detailed briefing before we left on the ride. 16 of us, including the two guides, descended a steep, wide trail toward the ocean. The wind was brisk, and whipped dust all around us. The views of the coastal cliffs were dramatic, and we passed sheep and goats as we went. The pace was slow, as a couple of the horses would balk and stand still, with their riders unable to get them started again. This required the second guide to come up from the rear and get the horses moving. We stayed on trails, and once in the woods the breeze was pleasant rather than fierce. There was no beach riding, and we never went faster than a walk. Larry was very accommodating, taking pictures of the riders and their horses with an ocean backdrop, leaving us all with nice mementos.

Sad place

This place is so run down and not anything like it promises on line. I was too scared to ride but my husband did and he said they took more pictures than any real riding. The part where they are suppose to canter a bit is about a two minutes long two times. The people were nice enough but I would not recommend this place to anyone. They tell you movie stars were there and that is true, many years ago for a movie. I met a filmmaker that was there. The stars were not there by sole choice. It also was run by someone else at the time.

“Ride like you stole them”!

My husband has NEVER been on a horse so this was going to be an experience. I grew up around horses. The guides did great job matching the horse to the rider. There was a family that had to kids with them that had never been on horses and the guide did great with them. Made everyone very comfortable. My group had two different guides and they did wonderful explaining the history of their land and beautiful scenic sights. The younger man was crazy 😜 and did some wonderful stunts. And there was never a moment without laughter!!

Totally Worth It!!!

The Mendes Ranch is a large, clean ranch with other animals on it. We saw pigs, goats, some cows, chickens, peacocks, and ducks. They have clean restrooms for their customers use as well. We began our ride a little later than expected. There were about 20 of us and it took time to get us all on a horse, plus they split us all into two groups. Although we didn’t see any waterfalls, we got an approximate two hour ride with opportunities to get pictures taken of us with our own cameras. The views were spectacular. The mountains were so green and lush. The ride overlooked the ocean. It was just flat out beautiful. This ride was the highlight of our trip to Maui. Everyone was really nice and very knowledgeable. Thank you so much for this opportunity!

Loved it. Went with my daughter, who is a seasoned rider. They break you up into your riding skills which is good because they can match the horse to the rider. They let you run the horse in a couple of places which is always fun. The scenery was breathtaking, would do it agin.

I would have said this was a great tour but I can't help but think the employee designated to assign horses purposefully gave me a horse that should have been put out to pasture a long time ago. Don't get me wrong, you designate based on level of skill but this horse wouldn't even listen to the commands of the employees so he certainly wasn't listening to me. The scenery was exquisite and even though we went in a circle it didn't feel like there was any scenery that we saw twice.

This was a wonderful tour. The views were absolutely breathtaking and the staff were just awesome. Highly recommend this horseback riding tour at the beautiful Mendes Ranch in Maui. I've been on horseback riding tours before, but none compare to this one.
