Departure Point

Your tour starts with checking in at the Mad River Boathouse where you can purchase refreshments, indoor bathrooms are available, visit our retail shop and explore the River's Runner Museum. Transportation is included and will drop you off at Wilson Bridge where you'll hop on your inflatable, self-bailing, 18-foot (5.5-meter) AIRE raft, which seats 16 passengers but this tour averages eight to 10 guests per boat.

Then set off down the Snake River with your guide, who does all the paddling so you can simply relax and take in the views of the dramatic Teton mountain range. Float 13 miles (21 km) down the river, watching for wildlife and listening to your guide's narration about the history and geology of the region. The waters here are calm, so cameras and binoculars are welcome on the raft to help you spot osprey, beavers, bald eagles, cliff swallows, and trout; if you're lucky, you might catch a glimpse of a mule deer, elk, or even a bear.

The time of your tour departure depends on the season, but mornings are the ideal time, as this is when the light fog lifts and sunlight casts a glow on the mountains. This is also the best time to spot wildlife.

Your tour ends with return to your departure point.
  • Confirmation will be received at time of booking
  • Please wear shoes that can get wet that will not fall off your feet. An old pair of running shoes or water shoes would be your best option. You must wear footwear in the raft, so we do have booties available for rent if you do not have footwear. Sizes run 2 – 15 and can be rented upon arrival for $5.00 per pair.
  • Please wear synthetic clothing if possible and bring layers. Synthetics are best for the river because they dry faster than cotton. A bathing suit underneath shorts and a t-shirt is fine for a nice, warm, summer day.
  • Conditions can be variable; you may experience a cold day on the river. (Not to worry, it will still be a lot of fun. You just have to dress appropriately!)
  • We have wet suits, wet suit jackets, and fleece jackets available for rent. Wet suits are $10.00 to rent. Wet suit jackets and fleece jackets are each $5.00 to rent.
  • Bring a change of dry clothes and a towel.
  • Sunscreen, sunglasses and a hat are highly recommended.
  • Gratuities are not included, it is customary to tip your guide and bus driver.

Snake River Float
, Jul 2019
Went for the float last week while visiting Grand Teton. Extremely happy with our experience. Was travelling with wife and twin daughters 11 years old. Was provided with hotel pick up from Jackson. Everything went as planned. Float operator was knowledgeable about the local area. Saw seasonal birds. Quite relaxing in calm water and no other floats in the vicinity. Will recommend.

We had a wonderful trip floating down the Snake river with Molly and Luke. They knew the river well and had a great sense of humor!

Very relaxing and fun trip!

Saw a number of bald eagles, met some very nice fellow travelers, and had a great guide in JR. Evreyone on our raft enjoyed the trip. Three different families. Our guide was knowledgeable, fun, and helped us to get the most out of the float down the Snake River. Would recommend Mad River as they were very organized, helpful and efficient. Our lunch was very good as well.

The float was sort of as advertised...

The float was sort of as advertised. But the guide made it clear from the start that it was unlikely that we would see animals other than bird life and cows so the claim that we would see wildlife was sort of true but not what I had in mind. Also, the float was not as wild as I had imagined that is,the area was more developed than I had expected. IMHO the guide was a little over the line a couple of times in attempts to be entertaining. An example was as we passed a very expensive house on a hill, he said it was his and the Mexican girls that cleaned for him were not allowed to leave. He meant well but.......The craft became uncomfortable after the first hour and the lunch was okay but nothing Iwould have ordered at a deli. All in all the float was a little disappointing but then I have spent many years outdoors so it may have been exactly what others may have enjoyed. Lastly, while the guide was okay, I would have preferred someone with a different approach.

We were disappointed with this tour...

We were disappointed with this tour. Guide was excellent, but the scenery was not as advertised. River was running much too fast for enjoyable float trip. From the title of this trip Teton Views we expected beautiful snow capped mountain views but essentially saw none. and the views in the Grand Teton national park were still spectacular at this late June date The inflated river raft was crowded and uncomfortable for this big, moderately handicapped traveler.

Tour guide/raft guide Bobby was very personable and informative. Scenery was spectacular. However, there was very little wildlife to view along the river.
