My Son & Marble Mountains Day Trip with Lunch from Hoi An

A nice way to the spend the day in Hoi An. If you aren't into My Son, or have seen that stuff before, Marble Mountain is still a must do. Great views from atop the mountain, and the caves are fantastic.

The first half of our tour was My Son, which was interesting and the ruins quite impressive although we felt this part of the day was a bit rushed and could have been better. The latter part of the day was Marble Mountain which was fantastic although climbing the mountain was quite physically challenging. First we visited the local marble retailer/carving workshop which was amazing. The range of marble statues was mind-blowing! I suggest though you compare prices locally in Hoi An before you buy too much as I saw many of the items I bough cheaper elsewhere later. The Marble Buddha on the mountain is beautiful and the climb up to this point is fine. Our guide didn't warn us that we were going to climb through a small cavern with steep marble rocks to reach Heavens Gate. The climb was difficult and slippery with no actual stairs and coming back down not much better for someone middle aged and with a bad knee. I enjoyed Marble mountain immensely but would probably have thought twice about the climb through the cave if I had known beforehand.
