Head to the ancient town of Trim, just a short ride through Ireland’s picturesque countryside. See the famous Trim Castle set along the River Boyne. Constructed in the 1170s, this monument remains the largest Anglo-Norman castle in Ireland.

Then, at the Loughcrew Cairns passage tombs, walk through the winding stone passageways with your knowledgeable guide and ponder the 6,000-year-old petroglyphs that adorn the walls.

Disorganized and rushed

Do not take this tour. The sites were amazing; the tour was profoundly disorganized. The advertisement says tour starts at 8:00. Take this with a grain of salt. At 9:06 our tour guide showed up, on foot, to say he was parked a few blocks away. The tour started at 9:16. Rather than end the tour late, we rushed the tour. The first stop we were told we didn’t really have time to go into the ruins, maybe just walk around the outside and come back to the bus. Our tour guide was a nice enough fellow who came from the area we were travelling through, but for a tour called Celtic Boyne Valley, he had no real love and only a little interest in Celtic history. Having said this there were some amazing sites, the pre-Celtic burial mounds were fascinating but find another way of getting there.

Do it!

The Hill of Tara was breath taking. The Abby at Fore was our last stop and was just as beautiful. But my favorite part of the tour was when we stopped and saw the presentation with Tom the Blacksmith. What a character he is. I would highly recommend this tour to everyone. It was a great “off the beaten trail” tour. Conner was so knowledgeable about the area and answered any questions the group had.

Despite the on and off rain, this was a very nice tour. Edel, our tour guide, was cheeky and fabulously informative. She even sang for the group. She encouraged us to visualize the past and offered great tidbits to help us do it. Lovely and profound structures and centuries of hidden secrets blanketed in green grass.

Interesting places to see, I felt the timing was cut short in a lot of places when we went back pretty early.

The guide (Finn) was very good. Really knows what he is talking about. Lunch cafe was over advertised.

Since I had requested a trip to Newgrange We we’re very disappointed that we didn’t see what we wanted to see which was Bru Na Bonne. I feel deceived by the fact that on your site you showed the Boyne Valley Trip when I looked for Newgrange The guide and the driver were wonderful but the trip is not what I requested

Connor was an Outstanding guide. He was knowledgeable, humorous and a great story teller. This trip was a really great experience covering a fantastic castle at Trim, to Stone Age tombs, a traditional blacksmith to an ancient monastery off the normal tourist roads. I highly recommend this to everyone wishing to see a truly beautiful part of a beautiful Island

Finn is a great host and shared many colorful stories for almost the whole journey. If we had explored the sites on our own, it wouldn’t have been nearly as enriching.

Worth the Price

The day trip was exactly as advertised, with some extra bonuses thrown in. The guide, David, was both knowledgeable and helpful. He went the extra mile by adding some humour and traditional Irish music during the driving between sites. The experience was exactly what I was looking for.

Loughcrew Cairns is a magnificent site, which I was delighted to visit again. I had not visited Becktive Abbey and Fore Abbey before, and both were beautiful sites. Rudy was a wonderful guide, cheerful and well-informed.

Blacksmith and Loughcrew Cairns Would have been nice if more time was alloted at the Trim Castle and the blacksmith tour. Also, an entry to the tombs/access to Newgrange would have been nice.

The knowledge from our guide, sorry, don’t remember his name, older guy, was amazing. Very informative. He was a great driver too. Paced the day out beautifully. He was very kind to an older woman with mobility issues. One of the highlights of the day was having a drink and chat with some locals in the little pub in Fore - population, 13. Yep, 13!

Loved Every Minute!

The tour was very interesting and informative, Derek was an excellent guide and even guided us back into Dublin with a song. The weather was beautiful and we loved learning about the history of each place visited, as well as Ireland as a whole. The view from Loughcrew was gorgeous, however it is a bit of a climb so be ready for some uphill walking and wear waterproof shoes just in case!
