Overview

Discover the underwater world of Catalina Island during a 45-minute ride on a semi-submarine. The semi-sub allows you to view the marine life of Avalon Bay as you dive six feet (two meters) below the surface at Lovers' Cove. Stay dry as you get a close look at fish feeding around the submarine, then take in views of the island from your vessel's top deck during the return journey to Avalon.

Overall fun but they need a better seating system so we don't have to fight for a place to sit. Some people took up more seating and had to be made to share room.

Really fun. Got a little woozy but it went away in no time. It was beautiful. I would definitely do it again and refer others!

Fun for kids - but too expensive.

The kids had a great time. The ticket is overpriced. Especially when they tack on additional cash charges for fish food once your in the sub. It felt a little like a scam. Especially when the ticket was like $45 a pop. That said… kids under 10 will Love it.

I'LL PASS

Not impressed. The viewing windows were obscure by algae. The "guide"'s accent was so pronounced we could only understand 10% of what he said, which was fine because he mainly tried to sell us food for the fish. He actually went so far as to say the trip would be no good if not enough people bought food. If you're selling us a trip to view fish underwater, shouldn't you be taking care of that?

We couldn’t understand the guide because of a heavy accent. Because of so much feeding, it was hard to see the kelp and find other kinds of fish. Too much money for a less than memorable experience.

Rude staff, basically circles around a fishbowl and comes back over feeding local wildlife along the way

Feeding the fish was really fun. I loved watching them get so close especially the orange and blue ones.

Great for Kids

This is a great experience for kids. The sub provides information on the various fish and children (as well as adults) are able to push buttons to feed the fish in the ocean.

Catalina express canceled our boat and they wouldn’t refund us. I emailed them and no response was sent to us. I understand the cancellation policy but the cancellation was not up to us.

We went on a Wednesday and it was not real crowded. The tour guide is very friendly and informative. A good amount of sea life is visible.

Fun In The Sub!

It was amazing to pull up to the first reef and push the red button which fired the food! I thought it would scare the fish, but it didn’t. Instead they swam right to it! They were so close you could touch them.

Not for Adults with children older than 10.

This is for very small children. Not for children order than 10. Not worth what they charged and than you have to pay to feed the fish which is stupid cost also. Would not have did this if I knew it was less than 30 minutes.

So much more exciting than I anticipated--well worth the cost!

Truly amazing experience, right in the middle of the kelp forest with garibaldi fish, opal eyes, rock bass and more. Kids had so much fun "shooting" fish food from the torpedoes and seeing the fish swarm around. I expected more of a "Finding Nemo" experience like at Disneyland, but this was enthralling for kids and adults as well. So comfortable inside, and the staff shared wonderfully educational information. Well worth the cost!

Wonderful Views

Not a lot of species in the environment, it's about six or less that were present. Regardless of that, it was still a wonderful view and the water was clear enough to see the fishes in our window.
