Chichen Itza
Your tour begins with an early morning departure. Arriving at Chichen Itza, join your specialized guide for an in-depth tour of the site, and enjoy the tranquility of your early-morning visit before the crowds arrive. Throughout the trip, your archaeological guide’s commentary provides essential background to the well-preserved site of Chichen Itza. Learn how this large pre-Colombian city played an important role in Mayan civilization from around A.D. 600 to 1200, and remained a center of worship and pilgrimage until the arrival of the Spanish. Even today, it is still considered a sacred site by the Yucatán peninsula’s Maya population. Like many of ancient Mexico’s cities, the site was abandoned, and its ruins were hidden by jungle. Hear how the site was discovered and unearthed by archaeologists, gaining UNESCO protection and considered today one of the New Seven Wonders of the World. Your guide will explain the philosophy, cosmology and mythology behind this ancient site, such as the meaning of the stone carvings, pyramids, platforms, ball courts and staircases. Visit the Observatory, Temple of the Jaguars, Temple of the Warriors and of course the famous El Castillo, also known as the Temple of Kukulkan.  Return around 3:00 p.m. With this Viator Exclusive, your early morning trip to Chichen Itza helps you to beat the crowds so you can enjoy the remainder of the afternoon at your own leisure!

Incredible experience!

My husband and I loved our visit to Chichén Itza. We are still talking about how much we learned the day after! Our guide Marcos was amazing, very knowledgeable and personable too. I was happy to see the history from the textbooks come alive. I feel so much more informed after this trip. The cenote was a nice touch to round out the trip. I couldn’t imagine doing this tour without it now! It’s a once in a lifetime experience. Also the ride to and from was in a Coach, so I was able to sleep and not get sick (I usually get motion sickness). Thank you so much! We have memories forever.

We got the BEST tour guide at Chichen Itza. His name was Roberto & he was a pro. I'd been before but this time was absolutely incredible. Also the buffet meal was delicious and we loved all the chances we had to shop and see Valladolid. We would suggest to have cash on hand for the lunch, souvenirs, and lifevests. Overall it was an incredible day!!

Good trip, good guides, but no free time given
mwoodley09

Very good time, pick up was on time and seamless. We did have to pay over 800 pesos for the state tax with credit card upon boarding the bus. Bus was comfortable and clean, no food or beverage given on board but you were able to bring your own snacks and drinks. Marco and Rodrigo were excellent guides, Rodrigo took the best pictures of my husband and myself and was very happy to do it. He was passionate about the history of Chichén Itzá. It was a very hot day, bring a hat, lots of water, sunscreen, and big spray. The buffet lunch was good, drinks are not included so plan accordingly if you don’t want to purchase there. The only negative thing about this trip is that we were not given free time at Chichén Itzá to wonder on our own or shop with the many vendors who were right there at the site. In fact, rodrigo and Marco both discouraged shopping from the vendors at the site and did not allow us time to even look at their products. I didn’t like this, I wanted a good 30 minutes to shop and spend my money where I chose. Marco encouraged you to purchase from the people who hosted the lunch, but they didn’t have as much stuff and it was way more expensive. Please improve the trip by allowing some free time at the Chichén Itzá site and not making us feel guilty if we want to buy a cheap little Chichén Itzá figurine from the vendors.
