Awesome Mona Kea Adventure

Tour Guides Hunter and Nate were fabulous. Great narrations of where we were traveling, ecology, history. Incredible knowledge of astronomy. Star-gazing session was awesome. Loved getting the heavy parkas and gloves for the mountain top

Aloha SteveBe, Thank you for taking the time to review our tour. We are glad that you had an awesome time. Mauna Kea is the best place to stargaze. At 13,700 feet we are above the clouds and we can see alot of the nights sky. Thanks again for your wonderful review.

Best experience ever!

My husband and I were really looking forward to this tour and it did not disappoint! Ridge picked us up in Hilo and chatted with us the whole way up. Plenty of candy to go around, with cup noodle, hot chocolate, and cookies later on. After a stop at the visitor's center, we went up to the summit for sunset, then back down to the visitor's center for stargazing. We were worried because it was foggy and drizzly at first, but then the sky cleared up and we saw the ISS fly by, Josiah taught us about all the constellations, and we were even able to see 3 moons of Jupiter and Saturn's ring through the telescope. The drive was a little scary, but both tour guides were careful drivers and got us everywhere safely. This was our favorite tour we did in Hawaii. We got back to Hilo a little after 9 (and Ridge gave us a ton of local restaurant recommendations which we definitely took advantage of!).

Aloha Jess, Thank you for taking the time to review our tour. We are happy that you found our tour your favorite. Looking at Saturn's rings is my favorite thing to look at through the telescope. You see it in books but when you actually see it, it is truly amazing. Thanks again for your wonderful review

The view is breathtaking and our tour guide was wonderful. Everything was planned out pretty well, thick jackets were lended out for those who were cold. Glad we booked this because we wouldn’t have been able to reach the summit on our own.

Breathtaking views above the clouds. We had a clear night. Beautiful sunset. Could even see Maui's mountain. The view of the stars and milky way is amazing. If you are feeling any altitude sickness, don't have the snacks. It makes it worse.
icon Response from Host , Sep 2021
Aloha Patricia_E, Thank you for taking the time to review our tour. We are happy that you enjoyed the tour. At 13,700 feet we do have the best views of the sunset. Hydration and food with carbohydrates are supposed to help with altitude sickness. Thank you again for your wonderful review.

The BEST

This tour was amazing. The tour bus came to pick us up right on time, kept us entertained with great stories during the ride. Then on the way up the mountain, Heather shared some awesome facts and stories. We got snacks to enjoy as the sun was setting and parkas and gloves. However, because the weather and visibility was great, we were able to stargaze a little bit longer; I really appreciate their flexibility in allowing us to stay longer than expected. I highly recommend this tour. I thought of driving up there myself, but I would’ve missed out on all the information we got, and after an awesome but exhausting day, I’m glad I could sleep on the way back. 10/10. We’ll likely do it again.

Josiah was amazing! His knowledge of the mountain and the area was amazing to listen to. We weren’t sure we were going to get stars or a sunset, but the weather cooperated. The star lesson and telescope by Nate was amazing as well! Highly recommend!
