Excellent Tour
Claire

Very good tour. The tour guide explained the constellation very well and we were able to take closer look at the starts using $2000-worth telescope. The instant noodle and hot water provided by the tour really warms me up. The best part is the photo, it's professional! I got my most unforgettable photo with Milky Way as well as the glow from the volcano (volcano glow framed in the photo is not guaranteed and i guess i happen to got it by pure luck)

Great experience!

This tour was definitely one of the highlights of our trip (the other being nighttime snorkeling with manta rays with Hang Loose tours). Hunter was our guide and was very knowledgeable and entertaining. We enjoyed his narration about stars, constellations, and astronomy as well as stories about Hawaiian history, volcanoes, natural history, geology, and many other subjects. Very interesting and engaging! The sunset from the top of Mauna Kea was absolutely incredible! Bring warm clothes though - even though parkas and gloves are provided, it's cold up there! Very highly recommended!

Wonderful experience

This was wonderful experience. Very well organized, communicated well. The guide was very knowledgeable and answered all our questions about the culture and the night sky. We saw beautiful sunset from the summit. They had snacks arranged, there were 2-3 stops for restroom. We were shown one nebula and a narration going over the constillations that were visible. Our guide clicked a wonderful picture of us with the beautiful night sky, the orange glow of Kilauea volcano was visible too! Highly recommend it!

Aloha S_K, Thank you for taking the time to review our tour. We are very fortunate to be able to present this tour to our guests. At an elevation of 13,700 feet we are above the cloud line and we are able to see the beautiful sunset. Thank you for your wonderful review and recommendation.

Lovely sunset and stargazing experience

Punctual pick-up, Beautiful sunset, and amazing visibility for stargazing. Hot chocolate and hot cup of noodles at the top really hit the spot. Branson was a very knowledgeable guide. The included parka and gloves were absolutely necessary as it was in the low 40s at the top of Mauna Kea. 7-8 hrs is not exaggerated so plan accordingly.

Aloha J_C, Thank you for taking the time to review our tour. We are very fortunate to have Bronson as our tour guide. He is really good at recalling the different constellations and speaking about different things in our night sky. It does get near freezing so thanks for the tip of dressing accordingly. Thanks again for your wonderful review.

A great summit experience

We were really only interested in getting to the summit, but our guide Bronson made the star portion of the trip really enjoyable. He knew all of the constellations and used a laser pointer to point them out. Bronson was courteous, professional, and incredibly knowledgeable. Plus he took awesome photos of us in front of the stars, which I had no idea would be included. It was a late night, but we were able to sleep in the van on the way back. The parkas, gloves, and hot drinks allowed us to be comfortable in the cold temperatures.

Truly amazing Mercedes tall van (which is a required 4 wheel drive) drive to the observatory area. It has high winds and is very cold but they provide you with insulated coats and gloves. Then a lower drive to see the stars and Milky Way . Green laser pointer utilized to teach about the various stars. The complimentary hot chocolate and snacks were a nice touch. Lead driver was very courteous and knowledgeable.
