The Basics

Vancouver Chinatown is one of Vancouver’s most distinctive and fascinating neighborhoods, one that’s a rewarding place to eat, shop, and wander. Explore as part of food tours, which not only show off key landmarks such as the Dr. Sun Yat-Sen Classical Chinese Garden, but also include tastings of barbecue meats, dim sum, tea, and other Chinese delicacies. Many walking tours and bike tours pass through Chinatown and neighboring Gastown; hop-on hop-off buses and sightseeing coach tours also make stops here.

Vancouver City Hop-on Hop-off Tour
It was well organized and on time. I think riders should be warned about Chinatown before just being dropped off. Our driver asked if people wanted to get off and then when no one did and we drove through shared how sad it was.

Vancouver City Hop-on Hop-off Tour
This is great way to see Vancouver and decide what areas you want to go back to visit. The shuttles were timely at each each stop. On weekends and during the busy season you may have to wait for another bus due to capacity. Well worth it. They also had staff at most locations to assist.

Vancouver City Hop-on Hop-off Tour
Loved it, but the busses need updating. Good tour. We used it several times to stop in areas we wanted to explore. Wish we were able to actually see through the see-through top, but it was so old it was opaque and not clear.

We were given the wrong start time, hanging around for an hour. The tour was very informative and the food samples good followed by a good lunch.

Drivers were great...plenty of spots to get off an on. One time waited 40 minutes for a bus...a little too long. Other times the wait was reasonable.

Learning about Chinese culture in Canada. The various stores we visited was fascinating and he threw in some great Chinese cooking tips. It was well worth it. I would do other tours with Bob.

Chinatown’s Must-See Sights

Probably the most photographed landmark in Vancouver’s Chinatown is the Chinatown Millennium Gate, a lion-guarded gate that marks the entrance to the district. And although it’s small, the Dr. Sun Yat-Sen Classical Chinese Garden and adjacent park, which includes a pagoda and koi pond, serves as a peaceful sanctum—the perfect hideaway from the busy streets.
