Piazza del Colosseo, Rome, 00184

The Basics

As the second most popular attraction in Italy after only the Vatican, the Colosseum hosts some 4 million annual visitors, meaning that long lines are nearly inevitable without a skip-the-line tour. Choose from a number of tours suited to any age or interest, such as a Colosseum underground tour that heads beneath the arena floor to explore a network of passages; a small-group guided tour of the third tier; or a night tour that offers an eery experience and relief from the daytime heat. Consider group tours, self-guided audio tours, or private tours to gain an understanding of this well-preserved ancient Roman amphitheater and its historical importance.

Colosseum, Palatine Hill and Roman Forum Guided Tour | Skip the Line Tickets
We really enjoyed our tour with Zenda—it was incredible and so worth it to be able to go into the colosseum dungeons, which is the main reason we booked a tour, and to have someone help explain what it is we were looking at. The meeting instructions were a little out of date from pre-Covid and it would be worthwhile to update as we had some difficulty finding our tour, but we would definitely still recommend and enjoyed our experience. Thank you!
Great Tour of the Colosseum

VIP Colosseum Tour
We had a VIP small group tour of the Colosseum and it was incredible and well worth the price. Our guide was so knowledgeable providing a wealth of context and insight into what we were seeing which made the experience. The tour had to start a half hour later due to Covid restrictions and Viator kept us informed. I would highly recommend this tour.
I recommend this to everyone visiting Rome

Vatican and Colosseum Combo Tour: Don’t Wait in Line to See the Best of Rome
Elisabetta was PHENOMENAL. It’s our first trip post Covid and the family was totally impressed with the entire tour. Elisabetta’s knowledge was incredible. You would be lucky to have a Vatican tour with her. The afternoon tour was equally as perfect. The tour gave us insights into the Colosseum I did not know and I’ve been to Rome several times.

We were so lucky to have Andrada and her excellent knowledge and ability in explaining the colosseum and its ancient history. Much more informative than we expected. She let us feel like Romans! It is quite a walk from the colosseum to the Pantheon when the weather is warm!!

An experienced guide puts the cherry on top of a brilliant tour. I have been to the Colosseum before, but feel like I have never really experienced it fully until now. Cannot recommend enough

Lower level of the Colosseum is amazing. The design of the building at the time is unbelievable. Don't miss it. Pelin was a fantastic guide.

Maria Luisa our guide was fantastic. She was very informative and engaged. You can tell she lives and breaths for this and her enthusiasm made the tour incredible. The tour itself was great. You get to see the colosseum, palatine hill, and the Roman forum. I could not believe the size of the Roman forum.
Engaging and informative

Small Group Colosseum Tour + Ticket To Roman Forum and Palatine Hill
The Flavian Amphitheatre (colosseum) is a must see when coming to Rome. Our tour guide Lorenzo was very engaging and informative. We saw lots of people with headphones but nothing will ever be as good as a face-to-face guide! We had other commitments so couldn’t continue onto the Roman forum or palatine hill parts of the tour, but nonetheless we would highly recommend this guided tour off the colosseum portion alone! Thank you Lorenzo

We toured with Amil and she was just amazing. She also shared hard to find facts about the Colosseum. Great communicator and organizer! It was a lot of fun and she kept us engaged.

When to Get There

Since the Colosseum is most crowded during the middle of the day, begin or end your Rome tour with a visit first thing in the morning or just before last entry (which is an hour before closing time) in the late afternoon. Alternatively, choose a night tour for a unique, less crowded experience. Summer is the most popular time of year to visit, while the site receives fewer crowds in November through February, aside from the Christmas and New Year holidays.

The Colosseum in Numbers

The total area of the stadium covers six acres (24,000 square meters), and its highest tier reaches 157 feet (48 meters). It was built in under 10 years and was used for games and hunting for over four centuries.
