The Basics

The neighborhood is a must-see for travelers who want to walk in the footsteps of the founding fathers. Highlights include Independence Hall, the Liberty Bell, the National Constitution Center, the Betsy Ross House, Christ Church, and Carpenters' Hall. Elfreth's Alley is one of the oldest continuously inhabited residential streets in the country, lined with centuries-old homes.

Bus tours, many via open-top, double-decker buses, skirt the boundaries of Old City, but some of the landmarks are on narrow streets or in courtyards best accessible on a walking tour. Tour guides fill visitors in on the life and times of Philly's most famous resident, Benjamin Franklin, while stopping at city landmarks. Horse-drawn carriage tours are another popular option, allowing visitors to travel like their historic compatriots.

Confusing operations due to merging with another company because of COVID. Would have been a better experience.

Philadelphia Hop-On Hop-Off City Tour
Mr. Bill was an excellent tour guide, extremely knowledgeable about history and architecture. My only negative is that there could have been more social distancing as the delta variant is growing in numbers.

The apartment was very modern, nice & clean. I liked the location & there was a parking lot & on street parking. We look an Uber all over the city.

No Hop Off Hop On, still a good tour

Philadelphia Hop-On Hop-Off City Tour
Due to Covid there was no Hop Off Hop On, which is understandable, however Viator should have disclosed that important fact. The tour was still enjoyable. Drove by all important sites. Had a chance to decide what we wanted to see and go on a more detailed tour.

Our guide was excellent!! However due to Covid, you cannot get off and back on the bus. You get on and travel around. It is excellent information though and our guide was very knowledgeable

Great tour guide and driver. Note: ticket pick up location is NOT in the Visitor's Center as indicated on the reservation, but on the opposite corner (6th and Market).

Excellent tour with nice views of sights. Ernest tour guide was good and sometimes funny. Driver Ronnie just blew by locations not giving time for even a brief photo. We hopped on different bus, much better driver.

Things to Know Before You Go

  • Old City is a don’t-miss for colonial history buffs and first-time Philly visitors.

  • Visitors can skip the (often long) line for the Liberty Bell and view the famous national symbol through the Independence Visitor Center side window.

  • The historic cobblestone streets can make the area difficult to access for strollers and wheelchairs.
