The Basics

Visiting every one of the palace's 700 rooms would take days, so a Versailles guided tour that visits the highlights is indisputably the best option. Gold-framed windows let light into the Hall of Mirrors, while priceless antique furniture decorates the King's Grand Chambers. The Royal Chapel features a number of columns, and in the gardens, the Grand Canal dominates while the Musical Fountains dance to classical music.

Lines can be long, often exceeding two hours, so purchase a skip-the-line ticket to spend less time waiting and more time exploring the Versailles Palace and Gardens. Various combo tours include skip-the-line entry at both the Eiffel Tower and the Louvre museum and a Versailles Palace tour, allowing you to maximize your time in Paris. History buffs should consider a private tour for tailored insight into the residence's history, particularly Marie Antoinette's exile in the Grand Trianon and Petit Trianon, while active travelers can tour Versailles by bike to cover more ground in less time. On a full-day tour, fans of Impressionist art can combine Versailles with a visit to Giverny, the village that inspired Claude Monet'swater lily paintings.

Excellent tour!!
Our tour guide Pablo, was very knowledgeable with the history of France. We were a pretty large group who asked many questions and he was able to perfectly answer all of them. The biking was perfect to see all versailles even in a rainy day! Totslly worth the money

Versailles Guided Tour from Paris in Small-Group
Our guide, Flore was one of the best highlights of the trip. She is so knowledgable, friendly and fun! Now the reason for 4/5 stars....The tour itself may be a bit overpriced as it is a half day and fairly rushed, but if you factor in the history lessons and ease and safety of transportation, then you see the value.

1-Hour Guided Virtual Reality Tour of the Palace of Versailles
This is one of the best virtual tours out there. I have been to Versailles in "real life," but feel that this virtual tour gave me so much more than my previous "real life" experience. The tour was beautiful and very interesting, the guide was knowledgeable and funny.

Day Bike Tour of Versailles from Paris
Great tour! Take a blanket or something to sit on - there are no benches in the park :). Palace is huge, so is park - get ready for a long day! Breathtaking views and amazing food from nearby farmer's market! Kids in the group loved the bike part and didn't like the palace though.

Versailles Palace Guided Tour with Gardens & Fountains Show from Paris
Great trip. Provided transportation from Paris Centre to Versailles. The guide did a good work sharing the history and explaining the details. We had an hour to walk around on our one after.

Versailles Palace Skip the Line Audio Guided Tour with Gardens Access from Paris
The Palace of Versailles is so worth the trip! Gardens and Palace are gorgeous. Only issue was that the four hours was not enough for palace and gardens. If I ever get the opportunity to go again, I will opt for the full day.

Versailles Palace Priority Access Guided Tour Optional Show & Pickup from Paris
Versailles was incredible and our tour was all that it advertised. The pick up was in time and not rushed. Enjoyed others in our group too. Guide was organized and explained all clearly, giving much history of what we were seeing. I highly suggest this tour. Hotel/ Airbnb pick is well worth it.

Versailles Palace Skip the Line Audio Guided Tour with Gardens Access from Paris
We did a half-day tour and it was perfect for the time of year we went. If it was nice weather outside we would have wanted more time at the Palace to be able to walk through the gardens but since it was January we felt the half day tour was perfect! The skip-the-line lets you enter the Palace in a different entrance then the rest of the visitors allowing for more space and quiet for the first part of the Palace.

When to Get There

At night, when the palace lights are illuminated and the sun has set, the gardens' Musical Fountains are at their most magical. Visit the Versailles Gardens on a Saturday evening between June 17 and September 16 to see a particularly special fountain performance crowned with a fireworks display.
