Hawaii is famous for its colorful and romantic sunsets, and there’s no better way to experience one than on an evening cruise at sea. Oahu’s harbors offer many options—from itineraries serving seafood feasts to laid-back cruises alongside breaching humpback whales—and all ensure an evening you won’t soon forget. Here are your options.
Sunset Dinner Cruises
Most Oahu sunset dinner sailings depart from Honolulu and range from mini-ships showcasing luaus at sea—with live entertainment and a traditional Hawaiian-style buffet dinner—to luxurious mini-yachts with live jazz entertainment, plus prime rib and seafood. Choose a Friday night departure and enjoy unobstructed views of the weekly Waikiki beach fireworks display with Diamond Head in the distance, or opt for a combo tour that couples the experience with popular daytime activities such as a sea life tour by submarine or a helicopter tour that soars above the verdant valleys behind downtown Honolulu.
Sunset Sailing Tours
Smaller boats offering sunset sailing tours skip the dinner service and put the focus on the Pacific coastline. Departures from Oahu’s west side, the North Shore, and Waikiki allow for more diverse scenery than full-service dinner sailings that are mostly limited to the waters around Honolulu. Lounge aboard an intimate sailboat or catamaran, Mai Tai in hand, and, if possible, book your sunset cruise during humpback whale season (November to March) to get a two-for-one: whale watching as the sun goes down.

Private Sunset Catamaran Cruise in Waikiki
2
Discover the beautiful views of the ocean, local wildlife, the iconic east side of Oahu, and the sun dipping into the sea as you join me on a private catamaran cruise in Waikiki. We’ll depart from Kewalo Basin Harbor located in Honolulu and make our way up the coastline to Diamond Head, making stops along the way for any turtles, dolphins, or whales we may spot during our journey. Once at the top of our route, we will find a calm anchorage to relax at. Guests are welcome to join me for guided snorkeling and swimming or just dip their toes in the water as we soak in the beautiful afternoon. The vessel is exclusively reserved for your party so you are welcome to play your own music and bring any refreshments you would like to enjoy during our time together. I’ll happily be sharing my local knowledge and the cultural history of the area we are traveling in throughout the cruise. There is no better way to end the day.
