The Basics

A tour of Westminster Abbey is like taking a walk through British history. Explore independently with an audio guide, on a tour led by a verger (church official), or with a private guide. London for Kids with Changing of the Guard, Westminster Abbey, Tower of London
Wow! We had the best day with Lucy our tour guide. It was a full day and a lot of walking and sightseeing, but we were so entertained, we barely noticed. We are a family of 5 and our youngest is 9. We toured Westminster Abbey, we watched part of the changing of guards ceremony and toured the Tower of London. Lucy not only gave us a tour of these amazing places she made it fun and she answered all our crazy questions. I would absolutely recommend this tour!
Great tour for Westminster Abbey but no tour guide for Houses of Parliament

Skip the Line into Houses of Parliament & Westminster Abbey Fully-Guided Tour
Westminster Abbey is very interesting with lots of history. Our guide was knowledgeable and gave us a lot of information and details regarding the Abbey. I was disappointed that for the Houses of Parliament portion of the tour the Guide was canceled. We were able to continue using a listening device and head phones.

Westminster Walking Tour & Westminster Abbey Entry
Clint, our guide, made our tour so memorable. He is an amazing fountain of information! No question goes unanswered. His tour is perfectly structured from start to finish and finishes at Westminster Abbey. Though tour guides are no part of your trip inside the Abbey, Clint handed us tickets for entry and directed us as to where to go. All very convenient. His wit and sense of history and humor make the tour fly by in no time. My wife and I enjoyed it tremendously and highly recommend!

Private Tour: Westminster Abbey and Churchill War Rooms Combination Tour
This was one of the best tours we did. Flicc was a wonderful guide. She brought Westminster Abbey history to life and knew a lot about the historical figures buried or memorialized there. She took us to see the King Edward throne that was behind a rope that no one else was visiting. She kept our 12 year old and us engaged and interested with her lively discourse there and at the War Rooms. Well worth the money for the personal attention.

Skip-the-line Westminster Abbey Private Guided Tour
The private tour of Westminster Abbey was exceptional. Paced well, with engaging and professional historical narrative provided to enhance the experience. The guide was genuinely passionate about sharing her wisdom about the Abbey which was extraordinary and enjoyable to see. I gained a new perspective about the historical significance of the monarchy in Great Britain (as an American) as well as the social dynamics of church, state, and religious conflicts. A must do and well worth the cost.

The stories Richard shared that we would never have learned about on our own. The stories about Westminster Abbey and Churchill were very interesting.

Westminster Walking Tour & Westminster Abbey Entry
Jill was a fabulous tour guide. She was cheerful, energetic, and entertaining. She had the route well-planned so that we saw all the sights without getting stuck in the big crowds. The tour was three hours with a bathroom/snack break in the park. Would definitely recommend this tour! Would also highly recommend going into Westminster Abbey at the end of the tour! It was amazing!

Our tour guide Alex was exceptional! He was very engaging, learned everyone’s names first thing. Addressed each person throughout the tour and brought the sites we saw alive for us.

Things to Know Before You Go

  • Booking in advance will help you avoid waiting in long lines. Otherwise, be prepared to queue for up to an hour at peak times, especially in July and August.

  • As the abbey is a place of worship, visitors are asked to dress modestly, and due to its uneven floor and steps, comfortable walking shoes are recommended.

  • Taking photos or videos is not permitted within the abbey.

  • Some, but not all, areas of the abbey are wheelchair accessible. Wheelchair users should enter by the North Door; admission is free.

  • On-site facilities include restrooms, a café, and a gift shop.
