Dayang Bunting Island, Malaysia

The Basics

In addition to the legend-laden lake, Dayang Bunting Island (Pulau Dayang Bunting) is home to Dayang Bunting Marble Geoforest Park, where you can admire limestone formations and caves, and explore a mangrove forest via a man-made path. The majority of Langkawi island-hopping tours cover the island, and tend to include snorkeling at Beras Basah Island and Singa Besar Island, home to a population of golden eagles.

Langkawi Archipelago Jet Ski Tour Including Dayang Bunting Island
Fantastic day out that we absolutely loved. The tour group was small, got to explore some amazing sights and our tour guide Pat was a lot of fun. It was a nice surprise too that they took photos throughout the tour of you and shared them with your afterwards for no charge.

Langkawi Archipelago Jet Ski Tour Including Dayang Bunting Island
I was really impressed as it was very well organised and our leader, Pat, was friendly , accomodating and patient with all of us. He let us go wild for a little while, which was un-expected but nice to be able to free style for a while. You get to see a nice enclosed lake, go for swims, connect with nature, snorkelling gear is provided and you get put on a deserted beach to chill for a while. Everything was just perfect. Beyond expectations. Thanks Pat!

Best Jetski tour ever

Langkawi Archipelago Jet Ski Tour Including Dayang Bunting Island
The longest jetski ride I've ever yet had and it was the most amazing tour of the local seascape and natural rock formations around Langkawi. Tour guide was very professional and well spoken. Plenty of breaks in between and it's a very extensive half day tour. Might be a bit tough for anyone who has knee or lower back issues when the water is choppy. Bring your own water and local money for drinks. Totally worth recommending.

Things to Know Before You Go

  • Home to more than 90 different species of bird, Dayang Bunting Island—also known as Pregnant Maiden Island—is a great place for bird-watching.

  • The famous freshwater lake is a 15-minute hike from the jetty where most arrive, so wear sturdy shoes and plenty of insect repellant.

  • Lifejackets are recommended for novice swimmers as the average lake depth is 32 feet (10 meters).

When to Get There

Visiting Langkawi in January, February, and March means you’re least likely to encounter any of the rainfall that makes the island so green. In order to beat the peak season crowds, visit between April and August.

Enjoying Beras Basah Island

Located 15 miles (25 kilometers) southwest of Kudah, Beras Basah Island is a poster child for paradise. The undeveloped island is a staple of island-hopping tours thanks to its white-sand beaches, swaying palm trees, and iridescent waters, which are generally calm and ideal for swimming. Be aware of the wild monkeys that roam the island—they have a tendency to rummage for food.
