The Basics

Set just outside the town of La Fortuna, this cascade is a must-see for visitors to Arenal Volcano National Park. From the parking lot, the descent down the staircase to the falls only takes roughly 20 minutes. A longer trail winds through the rain forest and can be traversed on horseback, giving travelers an opportunity to spot toucans, monkeys, and other tropical creatures. At the bottom, adventurous visitors can swim in the clear waters below the fall, while others can picnic along the rocky shoreline or snap pictures of the scenery.

Most La Fortuna Waterfall tours include a visit to the adjacent Arenal Volcano National Park, where you can head out on a volcano hike, get your adrenaline pumping on a waterfall-jumping and canyoning adventure, or float down the river on a safari tour.

Full day Arenal Volcano, La Fortuna Waterfall and Hotsprings
Anthony, our tour guide, was amazing! He was very knowledgeable and kind and fun! He was also very patient with me as I struggled on the way up from the waterfall. This portion of the day is very strenuous, but worth it! It was an amazing adventure and my husband and I would recommend it to anyone who wants to see and learn about the beautiful Costa Rica land and people.

The guide made the experience fun, she stopped to show us a sloth on our way to Arenal. The birding was amazing at the hanging bridges. Would have liked more time there to look for more birds.

Hanging Bridges, La Fortuna Waterfall, Typical lunch and Arenal Volcano Hike
Our guide Erica was fantastic. A wealth of information about the geology and nature of the area. She trekked everywhere we went and pointed out features and animals. Be forewarned, there is a lot of walking and climbing on the trails, as well as 500 steps down and up at the waterfall!

We were glad we went on this tour...

Best of La Fortuna Combo Tour
We were glad we went on this tour. We got the history and to see the sights but might be a little pricy for what it is. Since we were staying near the volcano we wanted to learn about it but google would have done just as good. You must see la fortuna waterfall for sure as it is beautiful!!
