The basics

The group of 15 islands that make up the Mu Koh Lanta National Marine Park include the popular vacation spot Koh Lanta Yai, along with the pristine beach island of Koh Ngai. The area was granted national park status in 1990 in an effort to preserve the region’s natural beauty. Divers, in particular, will be in their element, with regular dive and snorkel trips heading out from Koh Lanta or Krabi to explore the bright corals and underwater life in the marine park.

Highlights include the world-renowned dive sites around Hin Daeng and Koh Rok – where divers can expect to see reef sharks, manta rays, and huge shoals of fish. If diving is not for you, try snorkeling through the coral reefs at Koh Rok Nok, exploring the rainforests on Koh Lanta, or simply lazing on one of the main white powder pristine beaches of the islands.
