The basics

The Remarkable Rocks are located within the Flinders Chase National Park and are visited on most Kangaroo Island sightseeing tours and 4WD tours. Follow the boardwalk along the sea cliffs to view the rocks and give yourself plenty of time to admire the views; pose for photos beneath the towering rocks; and learn more about the unusual rocks and their formation from the information boards. If you’re lucky. you might even spot dolphins or migrating whales as you gaze out to sea.

*The Remarkable Rocks are one of Kangaroo Island’s most visited sites and a must for first-time visitors. *There is an admission fee to enter the Flinders Chase National and permits are available from the Flinders Chase Visitors Centre. The center also offers hiking maps, park information, and a café. *There are restrooms at the Remarkable Rocks car park. *The Remarkable Rocks are outdoors, so wear weather-appropriate clothing and comfortable shoes, and bring sunscreen and plenty of water. *The Remarkable Rocks are accessible for wheelchairs and strollers.

How to get there

The Remarkable Rocks are located along the south coast of the Flinders Chase National Park. There’s no public transport within the park, so you’ll need to join a tour if you don’t have your own transport. From the Flinders Chase Visitor Centre, head south along the Cape du Couedic Road, then turn off before you reach Admirals Arch. From the car park, follow the boardwalk to the Remarkable Rocks; a less than 10-minute walk.

When to get there

The Remarkable Rocks are most impressive at sunrise and sunset, when the lichen-covered rocks glow golden beneath the rising or setting sun. Early morning or late afternoon is also the best time to avoid the crowds, with most tour buses turning up between 10.30am and 4pm.
