Lingyin Temple

The Basics

Lingyin Temple, aka the “Temple of the Soul’s Retreat,” was founded in AD 326 and has been rebuilt many times since then. First, pass through Feilai Feng, or Flying Peak, which has hundreds of Buddhist statues carved into the hillside, along the river, and inside caves and grottoes. Be sure to visit the main halls of the temple, including the Hall of the Heavenly Kings, the Grand Hall, and the Hall of the Buddha of Medicine.

Lingyin Temple can be visited independently, but many visitors appreciate the extra insight offered by a guided tour. Most day tours of Hangzhou, including those from Shanghai, include Lingyin Temple and other top attractions, such as West Lake and Leifeng Pagoda. Customize which attractions you visit with a private day tour.

Really great way to explore the area in a short amount of time!
My boyfriend and I visited Hangzhou for the first time and only had 2 days. We spent the first day on this tour and Nancy was fantastic. She knew so much about the towns and was very personable. We learned a lot about the village and the stories, and Nancy was able to advise us for what to do for our second day as well.

The full day tour is well planned and the tour was conducted in a relaxed mode. The tour guide Bonnie and the driver are both friendly. Bonnie is able to converse with the group in both Chinese and English which was helpful.

Hangzhou Day Tour of West Lake, Lingyin Temple, Tea Village & Hefang Street
We were late for our arrival and the Viator team was FANTASTIC is being patient and finding us in a very crowded train station in Hangzhou. Our tour guide Bonnie had IMPECCABLE English and a sunny disposition that made our day delightful. She also was quite knowledgeable about local Hangzhou culture and current Alibaba information, which was quite fascinating. We would ask for Bonnie next time for sure!

My family of four were taken around Hangzhou by David! He was articulate in his English, humorous and through when describing the different places we visited. I would highly recommend using Viator and asking for David on this tour or any other trip he might guide! Thank you.

Hangzhou Day Tour of West Lake, Lingyin Temple, Tea Village & Hefang Street
We had a great time on this tour and learned more in one day than we could have in weeks of walking around on our own. Bonnie was fantastic. She spoke excellent English and was able to answer every question we had. Having an air conditioned car waiting for us at the end of each stop was worth the price of the tour alone. Highly recommended.
