Magical mineral town of wells from San Miguel de Allende

Get to know Mineral de Pozos! Place where you can still appreciate the remains of what was a large wealthy town thanks to its mining industry. Currently its imposing buildings show us the solitude of a sad decadence, abandoned over time. Pozos was founded in 1576 to protect the Chichimecas silver route. Because it was very difficult to civilize this indigenous group, this work was commissioned to the Jesuits who realized the wealth found in the minerals of this area and taught These people techniques to extract and exploit metals. Wells has had several periods of wealth, but the day came when the minerals ran out and this Ghost Town was left for the admiration of adventurous visitors; Visit the Jesuit Furnaces, the Mine and Hacienda of the Five Lords and that of Santa Brígida, The Temple of the Lord of the Works, the Model School, the Church of San Pedro, among other places.

Pilgrimage with Researcher to Cañada de la Virgen, Hill of the Ancestors

star-5

Alberto Aveleyra has been doing research on the site since 2017, when he presented a paper about the prehispánic routes of access to the site in the 3rd International Congress of Ethnohistory. This year, 2021, an article where he shows his first research results is going to appear in a book about the Royal Road of Guanajuato. His research proposes that this site probably is the sanctuary of Chicomoztoc, a place referred in multiple indigenous historical sources, this discovery drove him to start a PhD in Mesoamerican studies in the National University of Mexico, he is now in the selection process, if he is succesful, he´ll start his degree in August 2021. The last 4 years of fieldwork and codex analysis have been founded through the tours he runs in the site. When you hire his tours you are contributing and supporting his research, creating a new way to do cultural anthropology in Mexico.
