The Basics

The film screened within this IMAX theater gives viewers the sensation of traveling through the 277 miles (446 kilometers) of the Grand Canyon, soaring over the canyon rim, white water rafting down the Colorado River, and going back in time to uncover the history of this natural wonder.

Visitors can upgrade their IMAX experience to include a light meal and drink to enjoy during the screening. You can also grab a bite to eat after the movie at the Explorer’s Cafe, do some shopping at the Official National Geographic Store, or learn about the Inner Canyon from visitor center staff.

Grand Canyon South Rim Bus Tour with Optional Upgrades
The bus was NOT luxury. Tight leg room for average person. Disappointed with no stop at Hoover Dam. I should have been informed ahead. Happy with both drivers, Tony and Ashley. Ashley did great when we blew a tire. Overall satisfied but will make sure I have better company for tour next time.

Maddie was great! I wish there was a little more history about the canyon but she was very knowledgeable about what she did tell us. It was nice to not be crowded in the keep, glad it wasn’t packed!

Please know that the trip Is 15 hours total. We were picked up at 7:15am and back to the hotel almost at 1:00am. Phil was our driver and he was amazing. He was very knowledgeable and had a great personality. So glad that he got him. The view of the Grand Canyon was amazing.

Grand Canyon South Rim Jeep Tour with Transport from Tusayan
We had a great time with Thomas. He was very knowledgeable on facts of the Grand Canyon. He was also very considerate when my son lost his hat out the Jeep window. He quickly turned around and allowed us to retrieve it.

The driver, Rod and Susan, the guide were wonderful. Very informative. Bus ride was long but fine. For the money, A GREAT VALUE. Highly recommend. Not having to drive to the Canyon was a pleasure as all I had to do was sit back and enjoy.

Grand Canyon IMAX Movie
Although the movie was fantastic the meal we paid for was not what we expected. The website we bought the tickets still had rice bowls as an option but when we got there to view the movie at 2:30pm they told us due to covid they can't offer that item. Although I understand the only other real option was pizza BUT they closed at 3pm which was passed the time we would get out of the movie. The young man taking tickets did apologize and took our order for 2 veggie pizzas and made it right once we got out. Our reserved pizza was given to a couple just before us so they did make us fresh ones even though they had closed. That was a plus. So just beware that things change at the site but may not be updated on the website. Thus the 4 star rating instead of 5.

Grand Canyon South Rim Jeep Tour with Transport from Tusayan
Memorial weekend is busy so very glad we took a tour. They did extend our tour time due to traffic getting into the park so it worked out fine. Our guide Haley was able to take us to places not so busy with breath taking views. Also she is a great photographer and took great pictures of us. The tour made it a memorable event giving us information we wouldn’t have known. Otherwise you would drive in look around at rocks and leave.

2-Day Grand Canyon Tour from Las Vegas
We had John as our tour guide and myself and my friend found him very enthusiastic and knowledgeable. His humour was really enjoyable also. We liked the fact this tour was designed for small numbers as it made us feel heard and also we weren't struggling to hear what was being said.

When to Get There

The Grand Canyon IMAX film is shown every hour on the half-hour daily throughout the year (with shorter hours in winter). Plan to see the movie before you visit the Grand Canyon to get some context, and plan to book your tickets ahead of time, as the line can get long, especially during the summer.

Imax By the Numbers

The IMAX screen at the Grand Canyon is 4,500 times bigger than an average TV screen, with 12,000 watts of digital surround sound to help you feel like you’re there. The cameras used to shoot IMAX footage weigh up to 100 pounds (45 kilograms) for 2D and 265 pounds (120 kilograms) for 3D. If you were to shine an IMAX light projector from the moon, we could see it on earth with the naked eye.
