The Basics

To avoid spending hours in line at the Accademia Gallery, snag skip-the-line tickets in advance or opt for a private guided tour. David is unsurprisingly popular and set in one of the most crowded parts of the gallery—for the best photo ops, book a coveted, exclusive, early-access tour. To maximize your time in Florence, choose a half- or full-day tour that visits both the Accademia Gallery and the Uffizi Gallery or also includes a city sightseeing tour.

Skip the Line: Florence Accademia Gallery Tickets
Be very early (or risk late) or be prepared to queue, especially at the moment, with museums wanting to see Covid certificates, so it makes skipping the line schemes very desirable for the top sites, the Academy, the Uffizi and, by the look of it, the Duomo. I went in right on time for both of those I did.

SKIP THE LINE: Love the David- Accademia tour
Elvis was our tour guide and he did an excellent job! We ended up with a private tour because we came during off season and had booked the last tour of the day. Elvis spoke excellent English and gave great information regarding the pieces in the gallery we would have walked right past without him.

Skip the line: Uffizi and Accademia small group hidden street walking tour
I have taken dozens of tours through Viator, and this one is at the top!!! Leticia, the tour guide, is OUTSTANDING; her knowledge, passion, kindness and professionalism is amazing. Crish, the tour operator was wonderful, accommodating and generous. I cannot decoy this tour enough, and if you’re lucky you will also enjoy spending the time (and learning so much) with the guidance of Leticia.

Skip the Line: Florence Accademia Gallery Tickets
No problems. Only comment is that the administrator was not wearing blue as indicated in the instructions. I happened to see a small paddle in her hand with the tour company on it. Also, instructions stated that redemption point was NOT same location as experience so that stressed me out but it was the same location.

Francesca was clearly an expert on the histories of the artists, art, and other elements represented at the Accademia. She revealed great information about the era in which Il Davide and other sculptures were created. We enjoyed the tour.

What Not to Miss at the Accademia Gallery

The scale of Michelangelo’s David (carved from a single block of Carrara marble) is enough to impress, but its fine details and lifelike features make it a true masterpiece. Travelers spend most of their time admiring David, but those interested in Michelangelo’s life and other works should also see his unfinished San Matteo or Prigioni that adorn the main hallway. The plaster model of Giambologna’s Rape of the Sabine Women also shouldn’t be missed.
