China World Trade Center (Guomao)
The Basics
A visit to the China World Trade Center shows just how far Beijing has come since the imperial days of the Forbidden City and Summer Palace. Visitors can not only marvel at the city’s tallest building from the outside, but also explore its public and retail spaces. The China World Summit Wing hotel, located across the upper floors of the China World Trade Center Tower III, features an 80th-floor bar and lounge area with extraordinary views across the city. You don’t have to be a hotel guest to enjoy afternoon tea or cocktails here. The China World Trade Center is also home to the China World Mall, among the first in China to sell international branded goods. Shoppers will find more than 300 retailers across four floors, as well as an ice-skating rink.
Things to Know Before You Go
The China World Trade Center offers one of the best vantage points in the city.
Don’t forget your camera for a photo op from the 80th floor.
The facilities are wheelchair-accessible.
How to Get There
The China World Trade Center stands in the heart of Beijing’s Central Business District, about 45 minutes from Beijing International Airport. To get there, take the subway to Guomao station, which connects directly to the building underground.

When to Get There
If you’re planning to shop in the China World Mall, visit during business hours. Otherwise, the views from the top of China World Summit Wing are best around sunset, as the city lights begin to come up for the night. Reservations are recommended.
Modern Architecture of Beijing
If you have an interest in Beijing’s modern architecture, there are several other structures you should add to your itinerary, in addition to the China World Trade Center. The asymmetrical CCTV Headquarters stands out as one of the most weirdly modern buildings in Beijing, albeit less famous than the equally impressive Bird’s Nest and Water Cube at the city’s Olympic Park. Another impressive facility is the National Centre for the Performing Arts, a titanium and glass dome nicknamed ‘the Egg.’
